To me, Billie Piper is not pretty enough or shapely enough for the part, and I don't like the way she speaks (inflection, facial expressions, etc.). From that aspect alone, the series is disappointing. The title does not exclude other call girls' diaries, so I would like to see a different actress next year.

i don't think billie is amazingly beautiful, but i think she plays the role quite lovely and is very believable and charming.
shareBelle isn't supposed to be stunningly beautiful and memorable. In the first episode she mentions it herself as she heads towards the hotel elevator, that she should be fabulous but forgettable. She's still technically an average woman with no plastic surgery and most of her "appeal" to clients is the fantasy, the makeup and the costumes. It's not about her general prettiness, it's about her confidence to command in the bedroom.

I also think she is too pretty for the part, but it makes for delightful viewing. Thank you for a refreshingly nice response. Obviously, an actress like Billie Piper in a part such as Hannah/Belle in a show such as SECRET DIARY OF A CALL GIRL is going to draw a loaded response. The deeply envious, the insanely jealous and the sour old biddies would just hate Billie Piper. By American standards, she has a striking resemblance to Denise Richards, only she has a much warmer on-screen personality. But of course sour grape etiquette demands that they'd peck at her.
And as for Hannah/Belle, this show represents wifey's ultimate nightmare: the predator out there looking to snare her hubby for all of his spare cash. Lo and behold, the enemy! See her and shudder! Of course they're going to hate her. Of course they're going to be deeply critical.
People, it is a show. A damned good one. And Billie Piper is a fine actress, and one helluva good looker. Lookswise, she's Playboy material, the highest level.

Billie isn't an obvious sort of beauty but she has a lot of charm and a very distinct look about her. I think she's very attractive.

And next, I think in the second season when she's with the plastic surgeon, he says part of her appeal is that she's real, that she can play the girlfriend role. If you pick someone who's too beautiful, it's neither believable nor is it really feasible. Theoretically, wouldn't that person be lopped up to be a model and/or actress? They already she has no trouble with casting couches or faking it. :P
Most call girls aren't model types I'm sure the real Belle is not better looking than Piper. That being said Miss Pipers nose look a bit to big for her face who ever is working the camera loves to show it off.

I was a bit shocked to see the real Belle, she was very common looking, not what anyone would expect a call girl to look like. Though, that's because we are programmed to think a call girl would look a certain way.
I didn't expect a super model, but I was still a bit surprised that she wasn't prettier.
Actually, the facial scarring shocked me most of all. Did she have the scars while she was a call girl? Or were they the result of a car crash or some other type of accident? I doubt anyone would have such bad acne scars on just one side of their face. Her scars looked like the result of an accident, they didn't look like acne scars.
Belle made loads of money, if the scarring happened while she was still a call girl, I'm wondering why she didn't have plastic surgery to correct the facial scarring.
As for Billie Piper, she is loaded with sex appeal! Many sexy people are not conventionally beautiful, handsome or extremely pretty, their sex appeal comes from within, through their confidence, likable personalities and also from their quirkiness. Billie has all these qualities.
There are actually lots of attractive people with ZERO sex appeal! I can name a whole bunch of so-called 'sexy' actresses and actors with no sex appeal whatsoever.
To me that facial scarring looked like a bit of a result from extreme acne or chicken pox. It's all in the right placers (cheeks, forehead, chin). It's something she can't help obviously but doesn't detract from her general prettiness.
shareAfter this thread I went to look up the real Belle. And I was pleasantly surprised. She is beautiful, not perfect but very much beautiful. And considering that she's older now and I'm pretty sure she looked better in her youth, I think she would've been a stunner. Also she gives off a warmer aura than Billie does. Billie, even in episode one, when she plays the girl next door. You could feel the cynicism and coldness radiating off of her. Not to say that the real Belle isn't, but she hides it better. I like Billie a lot though. If she doesn't play the real Belle well, she certainly makes the character her own and she is absolutely wonderful.
