Two Oscar winners together acting terribly

Why? Why are they both acting so badly?

I watched this film only because I'm a big Brody fan since seeing Predators (I've seen The Pianist and Summer of Sam as well, but Predators really proved his range) and I have seen some very high quality work from Forest Whitaker. I had also seen the original and thought "Well, it can't be that bad?"

This was awful - constantly over-acted and they were playing their characters in a way to make it very obvious to the audience who to side with and what was probably going to happen. As soon as Whitaker said that he was a devote christian you knew "This guy is going to turn out to be psycho!" which is such a shallow way to build a character. He's christian = he's repressed = he's psycho.

I think Adrian was very bad - he tries to make ever scene dramatic, even when it realistically wouldn't be. A little subtlety could have saved this performance. But Whitaker takes the cake - every line it's like he's trying desperately to "act well" or "be scary".

These two actors both won Academy Awards for Best Actor in a Leading Role - the highest honor for an actor in Hollywood, next to lifetime achievement award.

I blame the director 90% (the script was very bad, but salvageable) but surely the actors could have asked themselves at some stage "Maybe I'm not playing this well?"

I agree, it was a terrible movie, and terribly acted. Overly dramatic acting. I don't think it is the actors' fault. I think it was just a terrible movie. It was too extreme.

Brody and Whitaker should have won Razzies for this one. Their peformances were atrocious. I wonder if the director did any re-takes. It seems like it was one and done, with the over-acting and lack of chemistry.

I disagree. Whitaker was great and really showed the shift in his character well. Brody was also great. I liked this movie. It had my interest all the way to the end (or at least until they were freed).

^^^ Yeah, some people are easily entertained.

Sorry, but I'm quite the opposite. I just thought this was a really interesting concept and I thought they did a pretty good job.

Look, that's your opinion. I also think that using the word stupid to describe my opinion shows how stupid YOU really are.

Once again, that's your opinion. I give movies a 10 if I don't find any flaws, and I couldn't for those two movies.

By the way, Lars and the Real Girl is one of my favourite movies and Skyfall is my favourite Bond.

the cube movies had horrible acting and were overated pieces of *beep* this movie had actors that were Oscar winners in it, You wouldn't know good acting if it *beep* you up the ass.

reply

Its not their fault. A mixture of bad Direction and a horrible script with unbelievable dialogues and moronic reactions will make any actor fail.

reply

Yeah, but they said yes didn't they? Actors have to take responsibility too. Look at the career of Leonardo Diaprio (who I don't think is a particularly great actor) and imagine how many roles he must say no to? I think this movie says though how much a performance is in the direction and writing more than anything.
