A Fresh Approach to the Vampire Genre

I was really impressed with the trailer to this vampire movie:

http://www.shocktillyoudrop.com/news/topnews.php?id=9244

Finally a movie that doesn't fall to teen 2 dimensional characters or add to the pool of countless vampire detectives who are trying to redeem themselves. A vampire movie that has horror, mystery and seduction and actually lots of horror and blood that we need. No flashy martial arts here either.

Looks like vampires have finally found their fangs again - can't wait - i'm going to own this on dvd/blu-ray.

Hey JK

I'll reserve my judgement of its qualities until after I see it.
With dross like Twilight available I need the vampire genre to return to its horror roots.
I grew up reading Brian Lumley's NECROSCOPE and the Ravenloft books etc.
BLED seems to be a vampiric version of Hellraiser,
The writer of this movie admitted as much in an interview that Clive Barker was an
influence. I respect your opinion anyways and perhaps after we both see this movie we could discuss our views
Of it further...

I've just seen the film from a torrent and loved it. It is a fresh take i can safely say and the score is phenomenal for any film especially an independent small film like this. Anyone who says vampires cannot be fresh anymore has obviously never heard of Necroscope(even though the 1st book came out in 1985 and reinvented the visceral horror genre the masses are still oblivious to it.It still remains the most unique and most powerful take on vampires to date, imo)...People nowadays think hill-billy crap like tv's True Blood is somehow fresh since they obviously never heard of Necroscope or been around the block too much.

Anyway the movie is really surreal and beautiful and requires a couple viewings to fully sink in. The vampire make-up is surprisingly well done as well. The occultism in it is very powerful ,i loved it ,and the idea does bare a certain resemblance to the Hellraiser mythos(although to be fair other dimensional vampires and predatory entities go way back to occultism and mythology), also the tone of the score is in the same style. It's available in free torrents and on dvd(ebay now and amazon in april).

Hey bro you might not remember me but you and i had some wonderful long discussions on the Interview with the Vampire boards last year , but at that time until only a few weeks ago i going by another name. I got bored with it and decideds to change it ,no special reason. Anyway ,i haven't been on that forum since around july 2008 because i got sick and disgusted with it because of the ever present board nazi/tyrant(i think you know whom i mean)...lol.

P.S. A new Necroscope book just came out containing several short stories set in the Lost Years saga(although i don't know if the Wamphyri will be present, they were not in the previous book 'The Touch')

DARK BLESSINGS!!

Hello

good to hear from you again

I enjoyed BLED as well.

Good cinematography and score, it was nightmarishly beautiful and haunting. The look of the vampires was great and since it seems to be set up for a sequel - I would have like to see what was the purpose of the vampire dimension, who the incubus there was in the past and the past of Renfield, and why Renfield wasnt like the other vampires.

*SPOILERS*

I think the incubus was one of the past people Renfield had seduced/tricked with the sap since Sai ended up in the vampire dimension which led her place being swapped with the incubus in the real world so Renfield could steal its blood to quicken his youth. That was why Sai and Incubus seemed similar, the same with the other vampires Sai killed in her apartment, whereas Renfield seemed like something more. When the incubus was killed Sai was left in the forest to take his place as the 'source' - that is what I think.

I haven't read the new Necroscope books - at the moment I am reading Vampire Wars: The Von Carstein Trilogy by Steven Savile, which is quite well written.

And I know who you mean about the Nazi/Tyrant. she has spread her omnipotent knowledge onto other boards such as Being Human etc, though you can really find other people just like her on any board really.....

tom-721, maybe he would never seen this movie without that torrent. So no harm to anyone if that is the matter. I only buy movies in the genre I love, because movies aren't that cheap. The movies in the genres I don't like that much I will never buy, so I downloading them. The companys don't lose anything on my downloads and I get more happy and that effects everything I getting in contact with. Maybe I work better at work and maybe I do something special for someone. It's called the Butterfly Effect. Maybe you should think a little more and make the world a happy place yourself, cus you only bring negativity so far.

Anyway. I did not like the movie that much, but it was very well done. The plot was the worst thing with the movie and the two guys in the appartment were bad actors. I liked the paintings and that stuff. :)

4/10

This movie did not do it for me....I dont know I expected more..and what was up with the ending...I found it overall confusing and a waste of time...only thing that kept me awake was the other dimension scenes.

I just saw this movie for the second time and despite its mediocrity, I enjoyed it. It's decent, but not horrible. I do recommend seeing it for thpse that have not done so.

This film definitely offers a different take on the vampire genre. I like its slow devleopment and surrealistic appeal. Sarah Farooqui is a real delight!

I saw the movie last night and liked it. I though it was more original with the drugs and alternate-dimension thing going on. I do hope that there is a sequel.
