Movie starts in 1978


Quentin Crisp first visited NYC in 1978 (see link to Guardian article) and the fact that the movie starts in the 1970s is mentioned in the additional materials on the DVD. "The Naked Civil Servant" did not appear on cable TV in the US in the 1970s (and one can't imagine any Englishman using the word in 1978) but on PBS in the U.S. This is in answer to a post in GOOFS saying the movie starts in the 1980s.

Can you imagine HBO or Time-Warner showing "The Naked Civil Servant" (a PBS staple) on their networks in the early '80s? "Meatballs" was more their "cuppa tea."
