I have to agree but I think they still have it too easy. I think the system could use a lot of changes as far as housing, mainly keeping violent and nonviolent completely separate. I don't know, but it seems like that would take a little off the guards as well. Right now it is the cuts that irritate me. They are having to lay off guards but the prisoners don't lose anything. Budget cuts should affect prisoners first and security last. Cut off the cable TV, kick up the thermostat in to cut the electric bill, etc.
Personally I don't care about their comfort; we have veterans and senior citizens who can't afford air conditioning so why should criminals get it first? Prison is supposed to be punishment and it should be a place they will never want to return if they get out. And education? GED should be allowed and something like vo-tech, but these guys can get a college degree behind bars at our expense. I had to drop out of college because I couldn't afford it anymore, but my taxes pay for criminals to go? I know the prison system needs taxpayer money, but the priority use of those funds should be guards, their safety, security, and facility expansion.
