Alien Raiders?!?!?!?

Okay... "Inhuman" is cool. "Supermarket" is... well... at least it's not as stupid as "Alien Raiders".

I mean, who in their right mind looks at the title "Alien Raiders" and goes, "That's a pretty sweet title!" It sounds like a Sci-Fi Channel Original movie, and we all know how great those turn out.

It almost seems like they're trying to cash in on the upcoming Indiana Jones movie. "You like Indiana Jones?! Well this is RAIDERS! With ALIENS!" On a scale of 1-10, I rate this title "hardcore, fudge-packingly horrid"... you know... general principles. :)

Sorry if it seems like I'm flying off the handle over a title, but I'm so sick of Hollywood thinking they have to pander to genre fans because they're idiots. As a huge genre fan, I disapprove. God I hope this movie is better than it's title.

Any idea on the actual release date besides 2008?

Wow, rexmundi71... way to take what I said completely out of context.

I was making fun of the studio's choice for title. I thought that from what I had seen and read that the movie didn't deserve a title that relegated it to "B-movie Schlockfest". And after seeing the trailer, I stand by my words.

I think "Alien Raiders" looks like a good, taught thriller with some sci-fi elements, not a Sci-Fi Channel Movie of the Week, which is what the title sounds like to me.

Sorry if my opinion doesn't jibe well with you, sir. But it is my opinion afterall. Sorry for thinking that genre films should be treated with respect, especially one that looks as promising as this one.

Next time read my post more carefully before making accusations though, okay? I've never been against the movie (Especially since I've never seen it), only it's crappy title.

BunkSteve, it is clear you were referring to the title and NOT the movie. And I have seen the movie and liked it! I do agree, the title BITES!

Having just seen the movie with all of its contrivances and inconsistencies, and having read the glowing reviews of "genre fans", I'd have to say thet Hollywood got it right again.

ALIEN RAIDERS is clearer and bolder than Inhuman or Supermarket which sounds like a soap opera.
You know what you are getting. The title is not tinted by the other "bad" films {unlike this film which is tinted - green}.
The simple honest titles, such as Invaders From Mars are best.

And does it have a double meaning?
Are the AlieN RaiderS the aliens?
Or the ones who raid the store?

I'm trying to understand people's hang-ups with the title "Alien Raiders." (Like the director's original title -- "Supermarket" -- was better!)

The movie's about aliens who are raiding our world by using human bodies as hosts, so the title is perfectly fitting, albeit lacking imagination. But think of all the films or TV shows that have rather lame titles that lack imagination:

Alien (Guess what this film's about?)
Aliens (Now there are more than just one!)
Star Trek (A show about trekking through the stars!)
Star Wars (Wars out there amidst the stars!)

I could go on and on. The reason we don't object to these titles is because they've become part of our cultural lexicon and we don't question them, but this doesn't take away from the fact that they're simplistic titles that lack imagination, just like "Alien Raiders."

Simplicity isn't necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes it's the right route to take; sometimes something more ambiguous is appropriate.

For instance, the title "Sasquatch Mountain" is roll-your-eyes banal, but that's the name the producers forced on it; its orignal title, "Devil on the Mountain," was much more fitting, imaginative, and even deep (if you watch the movie).

Bottom line: Although something like "Inhuman" would have been a better title than "Alien Raiders," it's not like "Alien Raiders" doesn't fit the theme of the film.
