Decent Movie...Weak Ending (Spoilers)

The movie was a great DTV film that made use of some very good actors. I liked it all the way up until the end though. It was just so abrupt and horrible. Now, I have no problem with open-ended finales, but this movie didn't warrant one. It just came so suddenly and did not give closure to the story. The alternate ending was a little bit better, but that was not completely satisfying either. Let's face it, Otis doesn't deserve to come out on top. I would have liked to have seen an ending where Otis gets what he deserves and we actually see it happen (or know that it's him).

I thought it was funny the way it ended. They tortured the wrong man to death, and they couldn't tell the FBI that Otis wasn't dead. Then the Son kills the Pizza guy, once more murdering the WRONG man. Very funny, or so I thought.

Reminded me of Very Bad Things (also featured Stern), just not as good.

I 100% agree with your "Decent Movie...Weak Ending" comment. The movie could've been SO much better. Not too fond of "revenge" movies without the actual "revenge" bit in it (only other movie that comes to mind is Irreversible...but its pulled off better).

And the OP is right, Otis wasn't "likable" in any way & should NOT have come out on top.

I would've been much more satisfied if Otis was the one actually getting tortured...but then again, it'd be a pretty basic story wouldn't it?

Still, Otis should've gotten his. And to the poster tha mentioned the son killed the wrong guy...the end is up for interpretation. Listen to the writer/director commentary, they mention it COULD'VE been him, it may NOT have been him.

Still, at the end of it all, it left me MOSTLY unsatisfied.

I know, it was just "Boom!" shotgun through the door and then he's dead. Like there was no build up to it. Like no shots of them even seeing if he was at the door or not.

I think you guys are missing the point. They're not going to show them looking through the windows or anything to see if it's him or not because they don't prepare like that. They didn't even make sure it was him when they went to his house, they just started beating the crap out of the guy.

And as someone else mentioned, the ending is supposed to be left open by not saying for sure that it's him or not. My opinion is, it wasn't him. Not because I want there to be a sequel but because I don't believe he would go back to the house to deliver a pizza after what had transpired. One can make the argument that, maybe he was going back using the guise of a pizza delivery man to gain access into the house and take them by surprise but if he was that smart he would also be worried that they KNEW he was the pizza guy and were ordering a pizza HOPING he would show up to ambush him (or arrest him). So, I choose to believe that he's still alive.

In the end though, there's no ending that would've satisfied everyone. Had he been the one getting tortured you would've had people saying it wasn't too open-and-shut (unless they went another direction from there with it). There are plenty of films/stories out there where the bad guy/gal "gets it" in the end and plenty where he/she DOESN'T get it. And there are those where we don't know for sure either way. I've stopped caring about that and have chosen to accept the films/stories as they are written and decide whether or not I like them. If you don't expect satisfaction you can't be left unsatisfied.

The ending is perfect because the family is so dumb and impulsive that it is in perfect character for them to shoot without looking.

The alt. ending on the other hand is totally out of the tone of the rest of the film. It ended the way it should have. 100%.

I don't love the movie, but I enjoyed it and I thought the ending was as satisfactory as the rest of the movie.
