What did he have in his hand in the bathroom?

The "stalker" guy... when he was in the bathroom, talking about being a timid guy and his love, he had something in his hand. He also asked, "What about this?" pointing to the object. There was another scene, when they showed that object up close. What the heck was it?

At first I thought he had bloody tissues, but no, it looked more like a gun with a syringe? I know, it sounds weird... But I would really really appreciate if somebody could answer it because I am puzzled.
