Ok, here goes.
Pete (yummy Ray Stevenson) tries to get back onto Lifeline. He can't. He cries. He still looks good when he cries <3.
He tries to track down the Chinese woman from the underground.
He gets a call from Catt who tells him not to give up - that 'she' wouldn't want him to.
Pete goes and gets massively drunk in the wine bar/restaurant where he had dinner with Catey. His brother Tony comes and picks him up and looks after him. Pete falls down and is incoherent with drink. He still looks good.
Pete wakes up in his brother's house, hungover and wearing a stripy bathrobe. His brother's wife Ruth tells him he can't go on like this.
Pete goes and hangs out by the subway again. This time, he sees the Chinese woman. She won't talk to him. She leaves in a taxi and tells him he never really got what it was about and that a woman told her to give the card to him. And that all kinds of things are possible.
Pete goes back to his futuristic mansion of shiny things and basically googles the Chinese girl til he tracks her down - she's Vanessa Wu. She lost her boyfriend in the Christmas bombing in London.
Pete wanders around his futuristic mansion of shiny things - first he's dreaming of being alone in a fabulous shirt showing off his flat stomach and being scared by Catey banging on the glass. Then he is woken up by a missed call from a withheld number. He figures it must be Catt so he calls her and they arrange to meet.
Pete and Catt meet for coffee - she's skint. She says she didn't know that Catey worked in the gallery and apologises for scaring Pete before. He tells her he tracked down Vanessa. He says he can't be sure he spoke to the love of his life when she's dead. Catt says laws of nature can be broken. Pete isn't so sure. Catt says he can tell her anything. He says that he thought he was happy for 15 years but then he saw the life he should have had. Pete looks very good when saying this. Nice leather jacket.
They walk. She won't let him walk her home.
Pete turns up at his brother's house with flowers as a peace offering for Ruth. He tells his brother he met a girl because of a chatroom. Brother asks plenty of questions but Pete says he doesn't know much about her except she reminds him of Catey. Brother tells him he's a single man with money and needs to be careful!
Pete and Catt hang out in a bar, all cuddly. She puts a pic of herself on his phone. She basically demands €200 off him cause she's broke but again refuses to let him come home with her. He follows her to Coutts Brisbane house. His brother says it's a half-way house for drug users - bad news. Brother tracks down an ICE (in case of emergency) number for Pete, merrily violating Catt's right to privacy as he does so.
Pete meets the ICE guy - he was an ex of Catt's - she's a druggie who drove away his friends and stole his stuff. He dumped her and a few weeks ago she just passed him in the street without a second glance. He was relieved. He said Catt never studied art and that Pete is welcome to her. Pete is not happy but even though he tells his brother what he learned, he won't break with Catt. His brother is not a happy bunny.
Pete goes back to his futuristic mansion of shiny things. Catt scares him by banging on the glass. He's a bit freaked. She pulls him close and she says she used to money to buy Catey's perfume. Weirdo! Pete closes his eyes and holds her while smelling her hair. He says it's wrong. But he doesn't stop. It's sad.
Then they make sweet naked lurve. It's just like it was with Catey and she keeps flashing into the frame. There isn't nearly enough of Pete on display here sadly. They fall asleep together. Pete wakes and checks Catt's arm for needle marks. She rolls over, all sleepy. He lies awake. She looks at him, all creepy and evil looking.
Catt gets up in her underwear in the middle of the night and starts opening the cases. Pete wakes up as well and puts on his robe which isn't really fair because if she can prance around her undies, why can't he? :-( Pete's not at all impressed with Catt breaking into Catey's bag. He chucks money at her and throws her out. She protests and sobs outside. Then she tells him she's really Catey and she came back to him - Catt was desperate to get out of this life and she was desperate to get back in. Pete's upset. She tells him to go to Vanessa Wu and she'll meet him at the museum before closing time tomorrow and if he doesn't come she'll know she was never the one after all. Pete is upset. He looks good when he's upset. Although it would have been better without the robe.
Pete finds Vanessa, her iPod plugged in. They talk about LifeLine and the talking dead. She says her boyfriend Tom was on Life Line and they talked. She takes him to her room - she records Life line 24/7 (no recaps for her!) and saves it to disc, saving the Tom bits to her iPod. She plays Pete and Catey on Life Line together and what she said after he was kicked off - Catey wanted him to to keep faith and be happy.
Pete uselessly breaks into the Life Line building, sees loads of cables etc etc but even though he shuts it down, it starts back up again. Pete's actions are like a broken pencil.
Pete turns up in the gallery - he hugs Catt. I would like to hug him. But I won't.
Catt opens Catey's suitcases - she knows the combination! - and brings out a locket Pete gave her which she never threw away because he gave it to her. She said she took the pictures out to prove to Jack that she and Pete were over. Pete calls her Catey and they hug. Once again, I would like some, please.
They are in bed. He's looking soft-eyed and loving. Aw. He whispers that he loves her. He wants his brother to know about them although he can't tell them the truth. Catt says they will think she's after his money and a threat to the kids inheritance.
Pete goes to Vanessa and tells her Catey is back. She's upset - jealous that he gets to have his lover back and all she gets is Tom's voice. He's sorry for her.
Pete and Catt go for dinner in his brother's house. Tony is not impressed. He keeps making pointed comments to Catt. Brother and Ruth are not happy at all about this whole thing. Even less happy when Catt says she and Pete have moved in together. Catt pushes Tony into saying that he disapproves and thinks she's after his money. Catt is hurt by this. Pete says that things are so much better for him since Catey came along. Tony is confused by the name thing. Catt walks out saying she's not the one forcing Pete to choose. Pete says if Catt/Catey isn't welcome here then he isn't either. PEte makes nasty comments about the kids' inheritance and being put away like his dad. Brothers verbal sparring ends with Pete walking out the door. Mini-slam.
Catt and Pete walk down street and he makes a crack about her being 'corpse bride'. She's hurt but he doesn't pay attention - the Metro is reporting that Vanessa Wu has committed suicide by jumping off a roof.
Catt and Pete break into Vanessa's place. Pete tries to find if Vanessa is on lifeline. Catt pluggs the equipment out - says Pete won't feel better if he finds out Vanessa killed herself because of them.
Swimming in the pool of the futuristic mansion of shiny things. Catt makes plans to get the hell away from London - she wants to go somewhere where it can just be the two of them - Paris, if he won't see his friends there. Pete gets all Little Mermaidy - says he can have his dearest wish but only if he gives up everything else. Catt says she did. They snuggle in the pool.
Morning. Pete's wearing his damn robe. Catt goes out shopping. Pete sneakily listens to Vanessa on the laptop he took from her room. She's talking about killing herself. She says she's waiting for someone to come on the line - she had a warning for him he thinks he's going to be so happy but he's so wrong. Catt comes home and Pete hides the laptop.
Catt's got a brand new look - she's all madeover with a black bob and sexy black dress. They snuggle in bed but he starts thinking of Vanessa killing herslf and loses interest. He's shirtless. It's all good. Catt says she's booked Paris - leaving tomorrow. Pete smiles but looks worried.
Tony comes round - he's got Catt's belongings from the half-way house. Catt's out shopping. Again. The box has love letters between Jack and Catey and a notebook in his handwriting saying mean stuff about poor Petey. Pete won't believe that this is a set-up by Jack. He calls Jack's mobile to see what he has to say. The mobile rings out .... in the futuristic mansion of shiny things!!! It's Catt's mobile, charging under the bed!!!!
Tony and Pete go to Catey and Jack's house. The door's open. They go in. Letters piled in hall, answerphone messages wondering where Jack is. Pete goes into the bedroom - finds a spot of blood on the bed. Pulls back the sheets and reveals more. Pulls the sheet back and half the mattress is soaked in blood. Pete is not happy about this. He goes outside for air, goes down to the garden shed and sees Jack's body hidden under some wood. Very very dead. Deep cuts on arms. Jack killed himself.
Pete has a load of flashbacks of lots of stuff. Pieces of the puzzle coming together.
Tony calls the cops. Pete calls Catt and arranges to meet her.
They meet in a cafe. Catt wants to know why he chose this dump. Pete tells her Jack committed suicide and then managed to dump himself in the garden. Catt says that she went to the house for money but found Jack on the bed, dead. She can't explain why she moved the body. Pete reminds Catt of the morning she left Jack - how they arranged to meet in the place where they'd split up. Catt says "we're sitting in it, aren't we?" and Pete replies
"Yes, Jack, we are."
DUN-DUN-DUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!
Pete says the 'screwing' really made him believe Jack/Catt was Catey - it didn't occur to him that one other person might know all Catey's moves. Jack says he hadn't planned this when he killed himself but when it happened, he planned to destroy Jack - he wanted him to follow the woman he loved around, begging other men not to sleep with her, destroying all his happiness while the woman he loved laughed in his face.
But Pete says that what Jack has given him is the belief that anything is possible, that life continues after death and that one day he will see Catey again. He thanks Jack for this priceless gift. He tells Jack that he is in hell and he's welcome to it.
JAck follows Pete onto the street and threatens him - then he threatens Tony, Ruth and the children. He says they won't go quick "like that Chinese girl" (so we can assume that Jack killed poor Vanessa). Pete looks around and then gently pushes Jack into the path of an oncoming truck. Splat!
Jack/Catt is left in a coma in hospital - she's awake and aware but unable to respond. Pete is going to pay for her to be kept like that indefinitely. He whispers to Jack that he is going to keep him there to protect his family. Jack looks good while saying this. Rowr.
Jack walks down the underground tunnels. The poem Eurydice is written on the walls and we can hear the real Catey reciting the poem as he walks. "This path unravels. Deep in hidden rooms filled with dust and sour-night breath the lost city is sleeping. Above, the hurt sky is weeping, soaked nightingales have ceased to sing. Dusk has come too early. I am drowning in blue. I dream of a green garden where the sun feathers my face like your once eager kiss. Soon, soon I will climb from this blackened earth into the diffident light." Then she says "Journeys end in lovers meeting".
A phone rings. The life line woman does her spiel. An unfamiliar woman's voice says "am I on?" and Pete responds "Welcome aboard."

The End.

Faultless!!! Did you think the script was daft? Ray Stevenson is fabulous isnt he?

reply

Thought the script was a bit daft in places - I liked the Life Line idea but the coming back in another body thing has never been one of my favourite sci-fi/fantasy ideas. But I thought it was quite well done and even though I knew that Catt wasn't Catey, I still didn't see the Jack twist (ha! Brokeback Mountain!) coming. I wish there'd been more of Catey though - I like Joanne Whalley and don't like Jemima Roper much.

I think because Pete and Catey had been together then apart for so long, it was more believable that Jack was able to fool Pete. If Catey and Pete had been together for a long time recently, there would have been too much stuff that only they knew about each other. But Pete really wanted it to be Catey so he was willing to just go with it, even when alarm bells started ringing.

Thought Ray was very good in this - easily the best thing in it! I fell for him in ROME and King Arthur so it was weird seeing wearing ordinary clothes! He really made Pete's love, loss and grief real, which was really the hook the whole programme hung on. It's a pity some of the other characters and actors and other parts of the script weren't as good.

The BBC site says ROME will be back "later in 2007" - it's been over in the States for a while now so I'm getting pretty annoyed waiting for it! The last series ended in early January 2006 so I've been waiting ages. I have the DVDs but I want some new stuff!!!

Why dont you try www.thependragon.co.uk? Recently watched all 10 episodes of series 2. Pendragon are mightier than the BBC!!!

Thanks very much Harlequinn06 ! Although i saw the second episode, being non-english speaking i missed some of the crucial lines, but you perfectly filled in the blanks!

Ye are all very welcome!

I was bored and couldn't sleep so it was something to do. :-D

Thank you for your fabulous over-view of the 2nd part to Life Line, it was very very good and really funny too :)

I have not seen Rome on the BBC, I saw it via US TV. Where did it get up to on the UK, series 1 or 2?

Ray Stevenson is absolutey gorgeous, and I also thought he looked great in real modern day clothes, and i noticed that he was still wearing the ring he wears in Rome - on his index finger :)

reply

Still waiting for Series 2 here in the UK from the BBC. However if you go to www.thependragon.co.uk you can watch it online.Pendragon are mightier than the BBC!!

reply

Thanks for the compliments. Keep them coming... :-D I noticed the ring as well - I wonder what it means? Was he wearing it before rome or was he wearing it because he wears it as Pullo? It can hardly be his wedding ring on a different finger - he's divorced!

I watched season one of ROME on the bbc and then bought the dvd. I'm trying to hold on til it comes back to tv because I don't have a great screen on my laptop so watching it on the computer isn't as good. It's a terrible temptation though!
