Is Rita a future version of Alice? (Spoiler)

I wasn't sure if I was reading too much into the story but it seemed to me that maybe Rita and Alice might actually represent the same person, just different aspects of the same person. And maybe when Alice dies, she doesn't really die, maybe that is the way in which she conceptualizes growing up and becoming more mature.

Or maybe, it was intended that they are just two different people altogether and I'm just reading too much into it. If that is the case, the ending was really disappointing because of the way in which Alice dies. That would be kind of depressing really.

Rusalka is based off of the original Little Mermaid where the Mermaid sacrafices her fins and tounge for a pair of legs to be with the man she rescued. It's ironic because the Mermaid becomes mute to see the Prince; but in Rusalka, Alice gains her voice back when she meets him. In the Little Mermaid she is a great dancer but whenever she dances she feels like she's stepping on sharp swords and will bleed. The Prince is also to have an arrange marriage with a princess, but he is also in love with the Temple Girl (Rita). After discovering that the Temple Girl and the Princess were the same person they got married. Which is similar to when Alice finds Sasha and Rita having sex and not knowing he was already with another woman. So in the end the Mermaid and Alice die without the Prince/Sasha knowing and both became nymphs or a spirit trying to do good deeds to get into heaven.
