...think that having a birth in a hospital with an OB assisting is the devil. Seriously, these filmmakers couldn't be more biased. I had my only child, my son, 10 months ago in a hospital with an OB. I was induced with pitocin and cervidil because I was eight days late, then the next day I had an epidural ( which I DID want ). The birth went great. There was no pain at all after my epidural and my son was born healthy. I WANTED all of the interventions that I had. In fact, the whole experience was very relaxing. I was especially infuriated by the woman who, in the film, commented that obstetricians have no idea how to assist in a normal birth. What a falsity! A lot of interventions are often the MOTHER'S choice! Doctors aren't evil and they don't ALWAYS push interventions!
These filmmakers wanted to set out to make a neutral film, but this is not neutral at all. It is completely biased. I am not bashing home births or midwives-just simply saying that OBs are not useless to assist in an unmedicated, uncomplicated birth. They DO help women with intervention-free childbirths EVERY day in our country.

I think you just summed up the point of this movie.
You got to experience the kind of birth YOU wanted to have. That's fantastic. But if some women want a different experience, why shouldn't they have physicians who facilitate that for them, just like they did for you?

I understand that with issues like this cause people to become emotionally charged as they deal with very personal issues. Its like telling all the mothers that choose the hospital system way that they "did it all wrong", this is not necessarily so.

What this video is doing is getting alternate information out there that there is a different way available. They do have to make a point and really to get that point across in an hour to combat the multi-million dollar marketing machine that is the health care system. This system is working day and night to tell you how to have your baby and that their way is the best way. Now don't get me wrong their system is not ALL bad, but there is a better way for natural drug free low risk births.

This video is showing women that there is a better way, that they can choose a more natural, less traumatic way to have a baby!

Pitocin, Epidurals etc etc are not natural or the best way, in MOST cases there ARE cases that require these things but there is a reason why this is being pushed on women in North America, just follow the $$$ people!

You have no idea whether any of that is the "best" or "better" way. Each birth is different. I thought it all came down to what the woman feels most comfortable with or what she chooses?

It is. What I personally took from the film is that many women are not given accurate information about interventions in order to make an informed decision and are often scared into using them. It seems to me that many women would still choose interventions even knowing the risks - but the issue is that they ought to be informed what the actual risks and benefits of having a particular procedure (or not having it) really are, and that frequently is not the case.
