If the book "Splatter Flicks How to Make Low Budget Horror Films" by Sara Caldwell it mentions the exact same thing happening on the set of a movie called Malevolence" by Stevan Mena(who is the writer of this particular film). The guy charge the film $1000 for a location fee. He even said they could do what they wanted since he was going to rebuild anyway. And then 2 weeks and $6000 into it they got arrested and had to pay for damages. The owner was foreclosed on 2 years prior and used the film crew to get back at the bank.

Actually a lot of the character of Harry comes from Mena's quotes in the book. Including the one on criticism. :)
