Loathsome music
I had to keep gritting my teeth throughout this whole production at the intrusive and unnecessary original score that stomped its way into almost every scene.
Intrusive and rather second-rate scores are something that have seemed to ruin far, far too many BBC productions over the last years.
It's not a coincidence that the "Golden Age" of BBC dramas and miniseries - I Claudius, Lily, Upstairs Downstairs, etc did not have any incidental music at all - and were much better for it.
It's a pity that while costumes and location filming all make many series look better, the over-use of constant piano/cello muzak makes things soppy.
E and E's score was particularly bad.
Next time you don't like a movie and you're not sure why - it's the score!
