Bad history and bad science = bad film

I've read a number of reviews detailing the flaws of this film, but this is one of the most interesting to me:

http://garethrees.org/2008/11/25/eddington/

It touches on three main issues:
1. The story attempts to cram too many issues into one film.
2. Too many obvious fabrications for dramatic effect.
3. The climax of the film misrepresents the facts, significantly.

This review also provides two of the actual charts and graphs produced by Eddington. I recommend reading it, because it's more informative than the film was, and the writer is clearly more talented than I am.

4. To the three criticisms in that review, I would add that there's no real evidence that Eddington was gay. Given the repeated accusation that gay historians and gay writers have to "make everyone in history gay", this is more ammunition for that (false) charge. It adds so little to the story, you have to wonder what the point was.

Some changes to history (as always in movies), some bad science (so that people don't actually turn the TV off) and one really good movie. That's what we have here.
Saying that it was bad, makes you alter history.
The movie is indeed good and highly recommended.

Hey folks,

I agree with both arguments since I did enjoy the story, but I was also bored by someone's intention to force the viewer to view Eddington as a homosexual. I have no knowledge that he was homosexual, heterosexual, or even asexual. Just because a man never marries and lives with his sister all his life, that does not tell anything about his sexuality. If that were the case, I would suggest you ponder all the wild ideas you can come up with for the Wright brothers who never married, lived with their sister all their lives, and lived with each other! I have never seen any serious indication pertaining to the Wright brothers sexuality. More importantly, what does it matter?

Gladly, I was able to skip over the homosexual "message" and historical errors and enjoy the film for the very nice story it provided. I think the actors were absolutely great.

Best wishes,
Dave Wile

Loved the movie.

Pissed that the science was misrepresented.
