It is not exactly clear to me what you think was so bad about the movie. You say in your first comment that you didn't like the jokes.
Akshay Kumar is purposely acting like a buffoon to investigate what is going on. Think of Peter Falk in and as "Columbo". He acts like an incompetent fool so that the criminal will think that he is in the clear. This way the criminal will become careless and will make mistakes, providing evidence for Columbo to catch him. Akshay as the Dr. is doing the same only his approach is somewhat different. He want people to think he is a fool so that people will leave him alone so that he can get to the bottom of all what is happening. And in case you didn't notice this movie is not a comedy.
The fact that other people walk out of the cinema never should be used as an argument to prove your point. (Personally I think it is stupid to walk out of a movie. Tickets aren't cheap and sometimes a movie can surprise you at the end and can change your whole view of the movie. And it also helps to do some research before going to a movie. Saves you time and money!).
But is that the only thing you didn't like. What about the mystery/thriller/horror elements? Didn't you want to find out who the person was
impersonating Manjulika.
Let me tell you one thing about me. I used to watch Bollywood movies that were
made in the seventies and eighties. Then I lost interest and watched any other film made in the world except Bollywood movies. Reason for this is that most Bollywood movies were almost all the same. You just could predict what would happen. Also I noticed that Bollywood copied other movies and ususally were so bad that it destroyed my viewing experience. There is nothing wrong with song and dance but to always have songs is just too much for me. But that is in the past. I have been starting to watch Bollywood movies again since I noticed some crucial changes. Now there are more Bollywood movies that dare to be different
and do the unusual thing. Bollywood has matured considerably.
Now my point. "Bhool Bhulaiyaa" is a movie that pleasantly surprised me. I wasn't aware of the fact that this is a remake. I live in the Netherlands and only can get copies of hindi movies. So without having any knowledge about the story I could watch this movie with fresh eyes and just loved it. The trailer is very misleading and letting people believe that it is a comedy. And I was glad that it wasn't. It is a real good suspense movie. Not in the sense that it was thrilling every minute. But you just feel that something is up. The comedy and horror elements are there to put you off course. I love the fact that they play around with superstition, religion and science. It is quite a remarkable psychological thriller. Be honest. There aren't many Indian movies like this compared to Hollywood movies. Not one minute I got bored with this movie. And let me tell you that is saying something. I have seen a lot of (American,Korean,Japanese,British,Dutch and Hong Kong)movies this year and with most of them I was very disappointed. And now you have "Om Shanti Om, "Johny Gaddar" and "Bhool Bhulaiyaa that did quite the opposite.
For me this movie rocked big time. And there should be much more movies like this one.
