Hidden message?

Ok, well I have finally seen this movie, and have mixed views on it...I liked the concept, however the fact that Vidya Balan has a case of some dissassociated personality disorder was kinda distorted to me because later at the end, we see her being "excorcised" of Manjulika's spirit? (WTfish?)

-Anyway, apart from that I enjoyed the film...but what I noticed was the films seemingly overall message...

It for me was basically that superstition and faith in the supernatural and such alike is bogus, and that there is absolutely no plausible way that anything supernatural (ie: ghosts, aliens, witches etc) is real...Anyway what are your thoughts? did anyone else get that message from this film?

"Thorns unlike a rose will never have to face the sorrow of decay"

i hated the movie. and i don't think that's the message luvingneha. otherwise why would there be a need for exorcism?

Upside Down does not equal Downside Up

It pissed me of how the spirtual/supernatural was just dismissed with the DID theory, but keeping in line with it, a fake excorcism had to be done because Vidya's charcter had fully adopted the persona of Manjulika.

However, personlly I think when you look at it, how can you be absolutely certain that it wasnt the excorcism which actually removed Manjulika's ghost, no gaurantee that it was a purely mental thing.

But there is a definite message that not all probs are supernatural related, which even in this day and age is a neccessary message, as to many people are not taken to doctors, so that medical avenues can atleast be checked out.

Manjulika was suffering from no ghost or Personality Disorder
If she was taken over by something else and she is unaware of it, she would not try to hide anything from anybody. And when she comes to her natural self, she would realize the changed clothes and heavy makeup the first time. And in one scene, she is supposed to be herself, not Manjulika but she throws something and quickly hides herself as to cheat everyone. The script is written by an idiot.

I got the same message.

I think the 'exorcism' was to psychologically calm her down before a hypnosis session. If that side of her personality agreed to leave/cease to exist, they'd be able to reclaim the original persona of who she really was...

Yeah, in my opinion...it would have been far simpler if she was just possessed.

I also got another message from the movie...the fact that she was willing to cut off his head. I mean, sure...she's crazy, but shouldn't that true love she felt for her husband have won out over her mental state and stopped her before the blade came down? So this means love can't win out when you're mentally unstable?
