Bend it Like Beckham knock off...

Haven't any of you seen Bend It Like Beckham? I'm seeing people compare this movie to Rocky or the Karate Kid but it's not even close to those movies. It is however almost exactly like Bend it Like Beckham. Just replace Aicha's soon to be married brother with the Beckham characters soon to be married sister, make the family Indian instead of Turkish, transport the family to the UK and replace "kung-fu" with soccer (football) and you've got an almost exact copy of Bend it Like Beckham. I'm surprised no one mentioned it here. I'm even more surprised that such an unoriginal story line that is so completely derivative of another movie won any awards or received any recognition at all. Ridiculous.

Yes, I did see "Bend It Like Beckham" and kept comparing the plot lines with "Fighter" as I watched the latter. Just reading the info before seeing the film was enough to make the connection. It was amusing enough for all that it is a derivation.

Stories like this - about women succeeding in male environments while bound by old traditional values - are universal, and Bend It Like Beckham (BILB) is only one of many films that depict this sort of story. Fighter also depicts this story, and I liked it better than BILB; it is more subtle, less goofy, more realistic, and less 2-dimensional.

Agreed. This film has a lot more depth than Bend etc., which certainly aimed to provide more laughs, while Fighter is far more interested in examining issues such as cultural and personal identity.🐭
