This movie was stupid. She's genetically engineered super soldier. Father is ex-CIA superman.
Stupid red haired lady goes down to the pool hall and hires, luigi, joe and vinny and have them chase the super duo all over the world (not all over the world literally). Like really, just kill the bums and move on with your lives. The movie went downhall right from the beginning.

Ok so they are safe as long as the button isn't pressed. Ok so why press it? WTF . They could have hunted the red haired lady down and took her out before she knew it. Lame.

Then out of all the cia covert ops folks that could have been "tricked" into going after hanna, the red haired lady hires a bunch of bums.

Then the dyamic duo flees from said bums even though there is one silly scene of the father taking out some hitmen.

Then stupid ending fight where the father ends up dying and the girls battle it out. Silly.

Now that I read my comments, I'm going to change my rank of "4" for Hanna to a big ole 1.

This movie has plot holes wide enough to drive a truck through. Absolutely horrible!!

I'm not at all one to argue that you should like a film when you don't, and I'm also not one to say that anyone who doesn't like a film doesn't get it, but you say a couple things that suggest that in fact, you didn't get some pretty basic points:

"Stupid red haired lady goes down to the pool hall and hires, luigi, joe and vinny" --obviously those guys were not just random thugs in a pool hall. She went there to specifically find the blonde-haired guy, because he is an independent hit man who has worked for her in the past, he's effective and he's reliable. He also has assistants he works with.

"Like really, just kill the bums and move on with your lives." ? They're trying to kill Hanna and her father, who are both well-trained to survive when people are trying to kill them. It's not like they're deciding to not kill them.

"Ok so why press it? WTF ." The whole idea was to get revenge because Marissa killed Hanna's mother when Erik was trying to get out of the business and get on with his life with Hanna and her mother.

"They could have hunted the red haired lady down and took her out before she knew it. Lame." No they couldn't. She was a higher-up in the CIA, just as well-trained to survive as they were, and not easy to find. That's why they made it a point that she's in remote locations, literally underground at times, etc. The whole reason Erik trained Hanna to do it was because he knew that was the only way of anyone getting physically close to Marissa in the first place. Erik could not have gotten close to her in CIA facilities. They would have simply just killed him on sight. Marissa had a vested interest in not immediately killing Hanna. That's why they took her prisoner instead. Erik knew they would do this.

" the red haired lady hires a bunch of bums." She hired those guys because it was her screw-up and she had done things that would have gotten her in hot water. She had no problem with the front that she's just killing Erik once relocating him, but once that failed, she was trying to take care of other aspects covertly to cover her own ass.

"Then the dyamic duo flees from said bums even though there is one silly scene of the father taking out some hitmen." I don't know why you think that's silly. Erik knows that until he or Marissa is dead, he's going go be consistently pursued, but he's highly trained, and he's not just going to sit there and die, either.

"Then stupid ending fight where the father ends up dying and the girls battle it out. Silly." Not sure why you think that's silly either.

I don't buy your reasons for 'pressing the button'.

If you trained for (about) 15 years to kill one person, wouldn't you try to find your hit for, I dunno... say, an hour or two before resorting to 'giving away your position'?

I mean, how do they even know she's alive still?

You TRY for a number of years to kill the target, and if you fail THEN push the button...

I rated it 1. This movie is total disaster!

<< Agree. Premise is set up very nicely in Act I, but the hunt and its resolution, as well as the back story, in Acts II & III, are very dissapointing. >>

Regardless of that, while I'm not a fan of the movie and there's lots to pick on, there were things in it I did like.

I could watch Cate Blanchett in practically anything, and she's a good villainess. Her reactions were funny: like, when she's staring at Hanna going berserk for the first time and is just mouthing, "Oh MY!"

And the film looked good, at least. It had a stylish aura.

But it's just so disheartening when you think of the number of smart and talented people who must have worked on this film for years, in different capacities, and none of them said, "You know, there's things MISSING here..."

For me, the most interesting things were those left (basically) unexplained. What was that experiment like? Is Marissa the girl's mother, somehow, and if not, how does this (presumably) childless executive of a certain age feel about shooting a child? What would it actually be like to walk on a crowded street and into cosmopolitan buildings if you'd never seen either? Did anyone feel anything hunting down and killing the kids from the failed experiment? What's with those green shoes...and why does that guy live in that fairytale themed house?

what a pointless movie. wish i could get that time back.

i hung in there til the end thinking they'd surely come up with some reveal or something to make it seem like there was more of a point than the extremely simple barely-there plot that had been trying to carry the film...... but no.

reply

Agree. The movie was missing heart. I didn't care about any of the characters. In the Bourne movies, you actually root for Jason. I never rooted for Hanna. I stuck around to find out the reasons why things happened and then when they explained it, I laughed.

Death by flume ride. That was classic right there. Laugh out loud entertainment. I can't believe this movie had actual stars in it.

The IMDB rating system can NOT be trusted if this trash is rated so high.

reply

Definitely overrated. The score by The Chemical Brothers is very irritating as well.

reply

The score is so "wannabe-iconic" it's hilarious. Seriously that stupid whistling tune they beat you over the head was so damn annoying, they used that song like 20 times in the film. Like they're really trying to get you to buy into the atmosphere and walk away whistling that tune.

Seriously that whistling tune they kept playing was so purposely trying to be iconic it's hilarious. It's like the director and the chemical brothers came together and were like "HEY REMEMBER HOW THE MATRIX HAD A TECHNO SOUNDTRACK AND THE SOUNDTRACK BECOME SO ICONIC IT TURNED INTO A JOKE? LET'S TRY AND BECOME THAT POPULAR AND ICONIC."

The whole movie stinks of "LET'S TRY AND BECOME TRENDSETTERS"

reply

That was a dope tune. Had no idea it was the Chemichal Brothers till reading this board.

reply

I'm trying to understand the logic behind what happens after they both shoot each other.

The bad lady gets up first, but instead of finishing Hanna off with a few shots, decides to stagger off on her own... only THEN shooting at Hanna, when Hanna follows her?

I never listen to hype, you only set yourself up. I think you'd have to be pretty stupid to listen to hype. I didn't and I really enjoyed the movie.

not only is it overrated, it is pretentious. Which is the worst.

the director does a good job at making the movie look artistic while doing a really bad and stupid rip off of Bourne movie.
People are saying it is good probably because the movie is not a big blockbuster (supporting smaller movies)
or because people don't watch these types of movies often, so they think it is good.

but the movie is too stupid for me to enjoy it

One ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them.

I agree, 'pretentious' is the first word that sprang to mind for me too. It was all style over substance.
