It's a fairy tale!

I feel like most of the problems people seem to have with this movie can be answered with this simple fact.

Hanna was an amalgamation of several female fairy tale characters like The Little Mermaid (entering the real world for the first time and being overwhelmed by it) and others (she was an orphan, send out on an adventure/journey etc).

Marissa Wiegler is an amalgamation of stereotypical bad characters like the wicked witch, the cruel step-mother and even the big bad wolf (obsessed with her teeth).

If you didn't get this while watching the movie, you might want to check it out again and watch it from this angle. It's a great movie.
