Posters screaming about "woke" in discussing this film are engaging in what's known as social contagion.

There's a thing known as "social contagion." Social contagion is the phenomenon of someone or a group of people with a demented point of view, way of life, etc. using media to normalize and spread these views and ways of life onto others, so that people who otherwise are normal start to feel, think and act like them.

One of the ways they do this is by using pop culture (video games, TVs and movies) as a conduit through which they can infect others. For example, a kid may have a perfectly healthy relationship to females. One day he plays a video game with a large Gamergate base, who then put out a huge spate of YouTube videos teaching players like him that the only reason why there were female characters in the game was to make him feel inferior, or that he should be suspicious whenever there is a woman anywhere in ANY game. Before long, he becomes "infected" by MRA and Incel talking points, and then does the same thing (also puts out YouTube videos after he has "seen the light.") Then the process repeats over and over again and the next thing you know, you have a social contagion, by way of this video game and YouTube.

That's what's happening with this movie. Nobody ranting about this film being "woke" actually saw it or if they did, watched in the spirit in which it was intended. This is just another IP being seized as a conduit to "infect" people with their mentally ill views on women and human relationships, in the hopes that those people will not only join the ranks but spread the contagion.

Bottom line, when you come across people like this, the worst thing you can do is argue with them, because this only validates them as having a valid point of view. What you can do is call them out for what they are and what they're doing.

I'm going to post a link to this thread whenever I see any complaints about "woke" about anything. The OP in this forum is probably from a network of lunatics who spend time coordinating in some other place over what IP to target for "woke rage," and then when they do, start posting threads all over social media, YouTube and places like Movie Chat. It's so obvious now. It's like they have some kind of online "mill" or something.

The problem I find is woke gets used as a slogan to the point people can't explain why they are using it, what it means etc.

I had an argument in regards to this on the doctor who board on here, especially in regards to series 12 and how it's political stuff made it woke. I pointed out doctor who had always been political so what makes series 12 woke and not the rest.

I was also told that the series was making the white guy the villain and others not e.g. White guy bad, black guy good. However I pointed out the doctors arch enemy the master, was played by Sacha Dhawan, an Indian and the first non white to play the role. Lenny Henry also played a villain who kills his own mother. But when you point this flaw in their argument you just get, they are only exceptions.

For me part of the problem is that these people can't have a proper discussion. I might never agree with them but if they had an actual discussion I'd at least respect them a bit more. But these people simply go woke woke woke and look like trolls

"Woke" is now a lazy buzzword for the lunatic fringe that can mean anything from, "I hate seeing a female character or minority in this TV/movie show" to, "I'm a sociopath who's offended by ethics, morals and social responsibility."

It's very tiresome to come across it--that and "cancel culture." But like I said, there's definitely an internet mill of troll farmers whose job all day, every day is to target IPs, go on different websites and platforms and kick up threads about why they are "woke." They will pretend to be angry and outraged, but they couldn't care less. It's a coordinated campaign designed to infect people with their views.

Woke is just the new religion/ideology that has become dominant in western countries. It's not the first one, it won't be the last one.

The question is how much of a religion and how much of a ideology. I'd argue that it's mostly a religion. Your comment is actually a good example of it: unlike ideologies, religions watch those who don't share their faith as sociopaths without moral. Your attitude is indeed religious, not different from old Christian traditionalists who used to say exactly the same thing about Atheists.

Really, just like the tactics that racist woke Marxists have been employing to scream people into submission since muh Orange man bad became their obsession. 🙄

As usual, the woke confess their own guilt through projection. Every. Single. Time.

Confession through projection.

They claim only the women in the film do great heroic things, forgetting all the male characters that also did good things. If you sum it all up, both the females and males did good things, and bad stupid things. But the wokey wokey posters can never get their facts right. Kind of makes sense why they love Trumpism so much.

I went to check out the Eternals section to see if there was trailer discussion.

And sure enough, first two threads on top were complaining about "wokeness". I swear they're just inventing things to troll at this point. There is nothing offensive in the Eternals trailer but they are somehow "veeery concerned" about the messaging of the movie. Apparently a bunch of eternal Gods must not look too diverse?

Yeah I saw this with the bond trailer. A female character is shown and she's a 00 agent so it's woken and she is trying to overtake bond.

Same happened when the series 10 trailer for doctor who was released and showed Bill, who was a companion of colour. People started judging her character from one trailer and stating how she was terrible and everything else.

You can't judge things from a trailer. Bill for me when she came was one of the best companions. Written like a real person.

Nobody says it's offensive. The concept of 'being offended' is something that wokes love, and for some reason they assume the rest of the world is willing to become constantly offended as much as they are, which is rarely the case.

Nazi movies that demonized Jews weren't offensive neither, by the way. They were alarming and dangerous, which is different, and that's exactly what these modern trends of woke movies that demonize western white males are.

WTF is your problem? There's one big "woke" thread!

There are a dozen saying "stupid/sucks/bad-script". Critics (57) and imdb users (6.0) rate it low.

LMAO

I'm not sure that it matters that there's only one thread on this here, I think the point is that there's a thread on even the most innocuous of movies.
Its gotten silly...and it was old a few years ago, yet you can expect to see it on just about every new movie. There's nothing clever about it, it seems like more of a race to see who can be the first to read into stuff.

reply

well its not just this movie is it?
His post applies just as much to every "this movie is woke" thread , which are ubiquitous

Spot on, well said.
