Dissapointed

after politics and animals i was expecting this to be amazing but i just didn't find this that funny i loved the office and extras everything rickys done basically but i almost felt that living up to the title of the show with his fame he felt he didn't have to work so hard on his material, the encore especially was just more of a story than a joke at all, it was mildly interesting but certainly not laugh out loud funny, glad i didn't pay £15-20 for the dvd at least!

well i disagree! i saw him in cardiff and bought the dvd and found myself laughing all the time! people expect far too much from ricky gervais but as long as he makes me laugh i don't care if it's as good as the office or extras! i loved watchin him and thats why i belive fame was a good stand up show!!

Animals and Politics were both great shows. Fame was only half good, which meant the contrast between the first two and the last was just too big to be anything but disappointed. Too bad.

Well I picked up the dvd the other day, as I own the other two and felt I had to get this one. I personally found a lot of it very funny, but I do agree that it's not nearly as entertaining as Animals and Politics.

As for the encore being more of a tale than a gag, I think maybe it was to bring the point back to (and end on) an amusing situation that his fame allowed him to witness.

I feel like it was a touch flabbier. The other shows had the intro sketches and set-up; this didn't. The others had a kind of clear conclusion; this didn't. The others had some anecdotal stuff, but this had a LOT of anecdotal stuff (including the Chris Tarrant stuff, where I actually had to "rewind" cos I thought I had somehow missed the punchline... lol! spoiler: there is no punchline.). Also, Gervais' performance wasn't very impressive or professional this time round. Yeh, that is part of his stand-up charm, but this time is was often irritating (e.g. the african well ME skit, which was annoying in the way he kept repeating it).

All in all, quite funny - laff out loud in places - but not as good as the others. If the other two shows were 4/5, I'ld reckon this at 3/5.

Pretty much everything you said, bajparry, reflects my own thoughts. Though I'd easily give Animals a 5/5 and Politics a 4.5 or 5/5. Those were just brilliant.

This one gets a sturdy 3/5. Flabby is the best way to describe this. I feel Ricky thought, "I can ramble on about anything because I'm Ricky." Sort of taking his act too far and getting away with quite a bit because he's who he is.

"everything's closing in, weirdness on the periphery."

You say the last bit wasn't a joke but a story... What's you're point? Ricky isn't a one-liner stand-up. That's not his style, he rarely tells jokes. He tells stories and situations and adds his purposely sometimes pretentions or arrogant persona too it. Most people just do not get Gervais. Like the people who ACTUALLY think he's arrogant... Just... Don't even bother watching him lol, not worth explaining. Not YOU, I'm just saying the people who think that.
