David + Fatima (2008) VS. David + Layla (2007)

Hey guys. Caught this film called David & Layla which played here in New York. Now from what I gather from David & Fatima’s trailer and synopsis, it appears to be a fictional drama, whereas David & Layla is quite a different animal--a political romantic comedy based on a true story. In fact, the real David & Layla have bit parts in the movie….but I digress….

Anyway, here’s the heads-up on David & Layla, which I found IMDB msg board... you all may find it interesting (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0424025/ ) Browse and compare:

""David & Layla, "A bold, politically relevant film against impossible odds." - Harold Pinter, Nobel Laureate, Oscar nominee Screenwriter & Playwright.

David & Layla is the first Jewish-Muslim love story as a feature length film.

Set in New York, David & Layla is a Jewish-Muslim political romantic comedy. It inspired by a true love story.

Winner of 6 Awards, David & Layla was an Official Selection in Competition at
24 International Film Festivals, including 3 in Israel.

David & Layla won the Prix du Public/Audience Award against 2 Days in Paris, La Vie en Rose and Lady Chatterley at the oldest Love film fest held during Valentine's Week in Europe.

IMDB wrongly dates the film 2005 because in Oct 2005 a 'Work-In-Progress" UNFINISHED film was invited to Hamptons Int'l Film Festival's 'Conflict Resolution' section.

In fact the official release film should be dated 2007 as it is correctly dated everywhere: Yahoo Movies!, AOL Movies, New York Times Movie Guide, Youtube, and in the film industry media such as Hollywood Reporter, Variety, etc...

Also, David & Layla is officially copyrighted on 35mm film, dated 2007.

Unfortunately bureaucratic IMDB insists on wrongful dating of David & Layla because IMDB database automatically picks up a David & Layla screening date in a festival!

Film finished a limited US Theatrical/Cinema release via Jeff Lipsky with the following release dates:

- Los Angeles (Beverly Hills Music Hall) July 2007. (Same cinema as David & Fatima!)
- New York (Quad Cinema) February 2008.
- Chicago (Gene Siskel Film Center) February 2008.
- San Francisco (Sundance Cinemas) March 2008.

The film is in English. French, Portuguese & Hebrew subtitles already exist.

In addition to mainstream public interest in this love story's universal Romeo and Juliet theme, there is enthusiastic interest from the Jewish community and from millions of Middle Eastern and Muslim new immigrants in the U.S., Europe, and Asia.

On YouTube, the film's Trailer and 5 Clips already have over 35,000 visitors.

David & Layla may be the first film ever to be an Official Selection at regular film festivals as well as at Human Rights and Romantic film festivals.

In Verona, Italy's Shakespeare's Amore Film Fest, David & Layla was featured in Panorama as a modern interpretation of Romeo & Juliet.

At Stockholm Film Festival, the film was in Competition against Little Miss Sunshine.

DVD Release is expected end 2008/2009.
