How does this compare to The Gathering Storm?

For those who have watched both I am curious if you enjoyed both productions.

Not as good as the Gathering Storm. Supporting cast less stellar all round. Gleeson does OK as Winston though.

Too much of a whistle-stop tour of WW2 most of which I knew already - all really. They jump from D-Day to VE-Day in the blink of an eye.

It was OK but a little unsatisfying. Could have been so much more.

I agree with Andy: Gleeson was OK but Finney was Superb.
Into the Storm was maybe penalized not only by a good but inferior cast compared to The Gathering Storm: imo the editing and the script are also a determining factor.

I wonder why they did not use the same cast & crew for this later installment.

reply

Agreed.
Gleeson is one of my favorite actors but in this case Finney was tops.

Finney and Redgrave actually smiled. I watched "Into the Storm" immediately after "The Gathering Storm" and couldn't believe the poor script and casting of the latter film. The failure to include any battle scene whatever ruined any verisimilitude to the five years of the war.

The history presented in both films was excellent. The acting n both was also excellent. They both portrayed Churchill very well. I couldn't find any fault with either.
