Are the fight scenes as good as Tony Jaa's?

I'm thinking of buying this movie but I don't know.

I'm not a big fan of fight scenes where the camera constantly changes and you barely see the star fighter do anything an example would be the Bourne movies and the Transporter movies where the camera is cutting all over the place to make the star look like he can actually fight. Do you know what I mean?

The final fight is better than anything Jaa has done so far.

Who says violence is not the answer?

They are better than Jaa's. Knees and elbows can get old after a while.

Donnie Yen directed the fight scenes not Wilson Yip.

There is only 1 good fight and its at the end of the movie where Donnie Yen fights Collin Chou. That's it. This movie lacked the action. Flash Point has mixed martial arts and Ong Bak featured incredible stunts and muay thai. Tom Yum Goong aka The Protector is way better than Flash Point. More Action!!!

I'd rather see someone whos skilled in the real thing go at it like Nagi Sing and Donnie Yen. No offence to Jaa who picked up martial arts just for his movies, but my tastebuds are more attuned to the former. Jaa no doubt is an incredible stuntman, probably the greatest after Yuen Biao, Yuen Wah and Jackie Chan. But when I watch a MA movie I rather cherish the actual martial arts on show in them more than incredible jumps/stunts.

This is not to say that a movie like Police Story or Project A arent cherished by me, but I view them more as action movies, rather than movies from the Martial Arts sub genre.

The fights in this were leagues beyond anything Tony Jaa has done so far. It's not even close. Tony Jaa has incredible talent, but the raw quality of these fights in SPL and Flashpoint outclass Tony Jaa by miles in my opinion.

Ya know, from everything I've read, Tony Jaa has extensive training in muay thai and muay boran, as well as training in taekwon do and other areas. If that isn't the "real thing", what is?

reply

Jaa's got real talent but not the experience Yen has. Yen doesn't overdo his fights and stunts. He incorporates his fighting techniques in the context of the movie plot. In Flashpoint, his scenes are amazing and especially the final scene where he and Chou have an incredible but still realistic fight.

Jaa seems to make every other scene into an opportunity to do a backflip into a back kick. I love his movies so far but The Protector was strictly overkill. At some point you have to say enough even if you're a fan of this stuff. He needs more acting experience if he's to become a leading man in the tradition of Lee, Chan, Li and Yen. Otherwise, he'll always be considered a glorified stuntman.

reply

Agreed that the final fight > any of Jaa's stuff.

This is movie has one of the best fight scenes in any movie. Yen made the fight scenes realistic by using MMA styles as well as other martial arts styles including chute, jiu jitsu and boxing. Lots of ground techniques. The final scene is unbelievable. Didn't know Colin CHou was this good.

Id say it rivals Tony Jaa's movies by upping the intensity and realism. Not as many fight scenes as Jaa's but Jaa's movies were about establishing him as a new force in martial arts movies so he had to show off his skills. Yen has already proven himself in his 20+ years career. Jaa's moves are still incredible to watch but he's still got a long way to go as he's still a young man. People need to stop hating on him just because he came out of nowhere and got good recognition.

The fight scenes were a bit better than Tony jaa's in my opinion. But donnie's movies have way better plot elements. Tony just seems to lose something then get is back with fighting.

I'd say the conversation is worth having which is saying alot for the fight scenes in flashpoint but I'd say no this is like a really good action film but ong bak is a total classic

reply

I would say it's better.
Better action, better story. I personally think better fight choreography as well.
but that's not saying that tony jaa's fights aren't good.
