Donnie Yen sgt. Ma is a Criminal

Donnie Yen's character "Ma" is no better than the criminals he beat up. Ma is a violent-abusive-adrenaline-junkie cop. It's no wonder the character Ma has no woman in his life and his mom left him. The reason his character became a cop in the first place was to freely bully others and beat others up under the guise of "fighting crime" while being fully protected by the badge. A psycho like this should have been kicked off the HK police force many years ago. I felt sorry for the vietnamese gangsters, and the oracle's bodyguard.

Donnie's relaxed standing posture looks weird in all his movies cuz his shoulder never healed properly from one of his earlier injuries.

when donnie yen says "He'll leave that to the judge", he's really addressing the audience to decide whether or not his Dirty Harry tactics make him the bad guy.

The only thing that annoyed me about this movie was Yen's constant need to start bouncing around, looking cocky and acting as if it were a "training session". Ok, maybe once I'll understand - but by the end he's meant to be fearful, or full of rage - but he looked totally unfazed.

This thread fails. Yes he took the law into his own hands at times... but never once did he harm someone innocent. Those men were scumbags, willing to hurt women & children for their own greedy gain. They deserved to get owned like they did and then some.

Not really. It has more to with his inability to keep control of his rage from criminals' violent acts leading to him impulsively beating them up for the sake of letting it out. This is clearly shown after he kills Tiger at the outdoor restaurant. Losing control of your rage and being triggered to do something terrifying in a state of shock. This build-up culminates in the end when we find out that he finally realizes the fault of his actions as he's about to choke Tony to death. These little details make Ma more believable and redeems the character's recklessness while still standing for what he believes in as a cop.

Bottom-line: Ma was a text-book cop with flawed skills that could be compensated but he wasn't all that bad compared to the criminals who killed rivals and random people over greed and power; the abiding nature of criminals.

Sgt Ma is not inherently bad.
Yes, his method is highly questionable, that's why he's reprimanded and demoted at the beginning of the movie.
He's not going out to coerce and bully the innocencemfor self-gain.

Not all good people are goody two shoes, otherwise Superman would've apprehend Batman long ago.
