Ways this movie could be SO MUCH better...**SPOILERS** *

FIRST EXPLAIN EVERYTHING!!!!
Plus a bigger budget and some better effects.
Get Jim Henson on board!!!

Maybe have Ragland been the runt in a family of nasty trolls who have done TERRIBLE THINGS(AND TELL US THIS CLEARLY vs making it Elf gossip!!!) or maybe have him somehow betray his fairy realm and thus he was exiled. Ex: He told the Witch a fairy secret.

Give him a time limit to find the door. EX: "upon the 26000 Full Moon the door will vanish forever leaving you lost to the mortal realms in the form of stone".

Curse Ragland with turning into stone by day and only having night to look for the door- thus WHY he has never found it in 2000 years.

Make Ragland a GNOME or DWARF versus a Troll. Maybe he is the garden decoration of the Aunt and Uncle.

Have the children's Mother off at the asylum and their dad dead. They are staying with loving Aunts and Uncles. Its this pairs turn to take them when the kids have worn their welcome out with all the others. We need a reason to FEEL for these people.

Make the kids OLDER by at least 2-3 years.

The movie opens with some silly kiddish prank such as replacing the milk that came on the doorstep(think OLD school) with paint or have the Aunt wake up to a pig in her bed. (set the movie a little more country cottage and less on the outskirts of the city)


The Princess(Fairy) is turning evil because the Witch gave her a cursed object and its devouring her fairy essence and killing her. Since turning wicked she has been locked from the fairy realm and lost to them. BUT they do not know of her plight because the Witch can do small glamour spells BUT only in the mortal realm.

Make Flip more animal like ... fur to the chest...let him change into other animals...have his group have different animal features...(ex: one could have rabbit ears and another a squirrel tail) ...i mean he looked more FAUN=like than Elf, but suppose he's a woodland elf.

Give Ragland a magic staff to yield his power.

MAYBE that is how the girl has powers. Ragland has a staff but it was left behind because the neighborhood dog ran him home too soon. SOMEHOW it got broken and the girl fixed it. SINCE she did something SO nice Ragland rewarded her with revealing himself. Thus, maybe her love/kindness is a special kind of magic. OR she was rewarded with a wish, wished to have magic, but can ONLY use it when Ragland isn't stone.

Have the townspeople more charming(think Nanny Mcphee).
