Should be called Eastern Eurovision Song Contest!

The political voting is beyond a joke, I'm from England and Scooch may not have been the best, but they were better than many of the shambles that performed last night. I think certain countries need to remember who pays for most of this show, I think the UK and other western European countries should stop funding it. Serbia did not have the best song and the Ukraine's had comedy value but thats it, and we get moaned at for not taking it seriously, Greece and Russia had the only decent songs that got reasonable points. It's amazing that something that was started by Western Europe could end with us no longer participating. Terry Wogan is the only reason I watch and the fact he gets the vote right nearly everytime shows what a complete joke it is.

I love Malta though, good for them for giving their 12 points to the U.K.

I thought the same as everyone else i didnt like Scooch as an entry, but after seeing them perform last night i thought they were one of the better acts,i mean lets face it there was only a few decent songs in it,the rest was awful and really boring.

reply

it's not like an eastern european country won

reply

Serbia won deservedly. I can't believe how many people have the energy to whine about it.

+ The entry from Greece was rubbish, a very poor disco tune that you forget 5 minutes after hearing it. Russia, not much better. Good looking girls with naughty lyrics.

P.s. how can you complain about conspiracies when you got your only points from Ireland (your neighboring country) and Malta (who have quite a close relationship with GB)?

The complaint is that NOBODY should vote for their neighbours just because they 'owe it' to eachother or however you want to call it. We got votes from our 'friends' just the same, yes, but if the voting was actually for the song, we wouldn't have all the complaints and the 'oh, how crap was the UK entry.', 'We'll never win if we pick acts like this!'-erm, we'll never win anyway now because unlike Serbia, we don't have any 'friends' to vote for us.

The winner had a good voice, but nobody wins 'deservedly' nowadays. Sure, it helped and they ended up winning, but even if the song was complete sh!t, Serbia wouldn't be joining us at the bottom of the table with nil points.

So yes, there are 'sour grapes', but this at least is deservedly so

I hate the way you exaggerate. You always make things 50,000 times worse!

reply

I'm from Finland, and we gave Serbia 12 points.. and I can tell you there's no special bond between our two countries. Sweden gave 10 points to them, as did Norway.

Serbia had a very good entry and ended up winning, there's nothing more to it!

reply

The political voting problem has been greatly exaggerated. It may seem so, because Eastern Europe dominates the top 10. But if you count only western votes the leaderboard looks almost the same.
If you take all points away from ex-socialistic countries you get:
1 Serbia 128
2 Turkey 111
3 Ukraine 111
4 Russia 84
5 Bulgaria 80
6 Hungary 79
7 Armenia 76
8 Greece 69
9 Romania 58
10 Bosnia and Herzegovina 56
11 Sweden 51
12 Moldova 50
13 Finland 41
14 Germany 40
15 Belarus 38
16 Georgia 31
17 Spain 27
18 Latvia 24
19 United Kingdom 19
20 Lithuania 16
21 Slovenia 13
22 FYR Macedonia 8
23 France 8
24 Ireland 0

And yes, UK entry was total rubbish. I liked all other songs at least a little, except that. You can tell that to your MP's.

reply

Scrooch were terrible, and at least some people from England have the decency to recognise as much, though they might still share the OP's disdain for Eurovision, Eastern Europe, and perhaps Europe as a whole.

reply

I agree with you and thanks for the good things you told about Greece cause I'agreek.I think that all the western countries should unite and vote each other. One of you will win for sure!

reply

I agree with many that during the past years UK entries have been carbage.

But that 'vote your neighbour' rumba has gotten ridiculous. It happens way more often than not.

The most common political blocks are:

Slovenia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Albania, Serbia, Montenegro, FYROM

Belarus, Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia will always give their best points to Russia - in those countries live many Russians who apparently vote for themselves.

Denmark, Norway, Denmark, Sweden (and sometimes Finland)

And also:

Cyprus - Greece

Romania - Moldova

Estonia - Finland

Andorra - Spain

Ireland - UK
