Misogynistic twoddle!

This was so disappointing. Not really from Izzy's point of view. I quite agree with her lifestyle & views, & am in fact a single, child free & very happy and contented woman myself.
What was disappointing was how against this the film clearly is. Every other character, including the poor girl's mother, shuns Izzy because she is not simpering for a husband to make her life finally worth living. Fulfillment can only come in the shape & form of marriage according to lifetime, no matter if the guy is a loser like Jim.
The idea that marriage is the only way to find happiness & everyone who claims otherwise is just kidding themselves & secretly lonely & dying inside is so prevelant in society it is ridiculous, disgusting & offensive.
Not to mention outdated medeval crap.
Phew. So yeah, this annoyed me.
& I didn't go for the love interest. Not very good looking & also annoying.
Generally just a plain annoying film. *sigh*

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and yours is valid on the surface but she had nothing against marriage or one day getting married "to someone other than herself" if that should happen. I thought the story was more about how she got caught up in someone else's idea of what she wanted. They took her innocent idea and bastardized it into something she actually didn't want. Something they could capitalize on like like so many other things in life. Of course in telling the story they had to romanticize it, otherwise it would have been bland. Who cares if someone wants marry themselves.

I have to take issue however with your characterization of Jim as a loser. I guess you didn't watch, or should I say listen, to the movie very closely. If you had, I doubt you would have made that comment. You describe your lifestyle choice and say you are content however you decide to critize his? You can basically make the same arguement as you made about your choice in an arguement defending the choice he made in his lifestyle.

i agree. It definitely WASN'T misognynisitic TWATTLE. She had the "wedding" as she wanted it and then she said, "hey, I miss Collin. I really love him. and though I was happy by myself all this time which i've been telling y'all over and over again, now I"m happy with Collin." It certainly wasn't anti-strong or independent woman. In fact, I'd wager that she stays fairly independent even after the real wedding. I'll admit it was a fairly weird movie, but it wasn't misogynistic twattle, by any means.

Just some food for thought,
Peace, Y'all!
