WEM from the outside?!!!!!

I saw this movie in Edmonton and fellow audience members were cringing out loud in many parts, like when a young male salesperson is being questioned by the police and keeps saying "eh" .... [you know, it would behoove Canadians to stop saying that outright!... it's like it's the only thing Americans know about Canada and it's an embarrassing trait... if they're going to be right about anything, I don't want it to be THAT!]

and the whole audience LAUGHED OUT LOUD when the movie showed West Edmonton Mall from the outside!...it was SOOOO OFF!

I'm Canadian, and I'm fine with their portrayal in the movie. When people start saying "how come you're not like the people in Christmas in Wonderland?" then I'll be scared....

I have lived in Edmonton all my life (36 years). I saw this in the theaters, and yup, I laughed when they showed what it looks like from the outside! So did most of the people in the theater.

The Mall dosen't look anything like it was potrayed, although I do appreciate that it could have been an attempt to make WEM look magical for the children watching.

That aside, this film whilst amusing in parts gives a terrible impression of the Albertan Canadians and an even worse impression of the RCMP.

Having an auntie who is 70 living in Edmonton - who worked for years with the RCMP and myself as a Canadian citizen (currently working in the UK) I was very dissapointed with this American potrayal of Alberta/Edmonton/RCMP.

It's been five years since I've seen this movie, but I seem to remember that the inside of the mall was portrayed accurately, while the outside wasn't.

I've lived in Edmonton all my life (nearly 37 years) and I don't remember them doing a really bad portrayal of us. It's just a kid Christmas movie. I don't remember anything about the RCMP. Usually in movies like this, the cops will be portrayed as the bad guys.

Edmonton has more to offer than just the big mall. We have summer festivals, but those wouldn't have been relevant in this movie. Also the beautiful Rockies three hours west of here, but also not something that would have worked in this film. Aside from our festivals and the Rockies, I'm not really sure what we have here worth mentioning, besides mosquitoes, potholes, pickup trucks, and nonstop construction. Perhaps someone else from Edmonton could enlighten me? I'm more than ready to move.
