Found this movie for $1.00 at Dollar Tree.

Found Christmas in Wonderland for $1.00 at Dollar Tree about a week ago. I just watched it, and it was pretty good. Patrick Swayze did a great job in the film, as did Matthew Knight, Cameron Bright, Chris Kattan, Carmen Electra, Preston Lacy, and Tim Curry. Chris Kattan really stole the show with his hilarious performance!! All in all, it was the best $1.00 I ever spent!!

Me too!!!!!! I saw it and said "ooh, Patrick Swayze, cool!" and it's really not that bad, about as cheesy as most Christmas Movies!

I live in the UK and my mom brought a copy over this summer. I'm guessing she might have found it in some bargain bin as well. Anyway, it wasn't that bad, yes cheesy and the WEM from the outside as well as the elves in the door under the stairs were a bowl of wrong, it was fun to watch. I've been to the mall many times myself and found it a bit nostalgic to see all the shots inside. I had to laugh at the guy surfing in the waterpark though, I didn't think that was allowed. And Tim Curry as a Scottish(?) RCMP officer?

Sorry - I'm up late and now you've got me thinking - "is surfing allowed at the Waterpark?". First, let me say that I'm looking at this from a VERY skewed POV - I've lived in Edmonton all of my life, spent a bunch of years as a "mall rat" (between 50-100 people a night - no adults, all teenagers - learned about every crevice, back hallway, places where the WEM Security didn't go and there were no cameras, all so they could sleep there. But then this guy at the Edmonton Journal wrote a 5-part article about mall rats, prompting changes galore.) I've been stationed there since about 3 weeks ago [mid-November 2012], until the contract runs out, which will be [I imagine] the beginning of 2013.

While I didn't check out the back hallways or anything, they had CERTAINLY made changes to the Security, and I didn't recognize the place AT ALL! I even lived across the street from WEM for awhile (when WEM was first built in the early '80s, the land was purchased because it was cheap, and basically represented the farthest west Edmonton went. That didn't last for very long...). But it was always fun watching people shop at WEM around Xmas time. The 22nd and 23rd of Dec. were always hilarious, because they had all of their (at the time, quite inadequate) Security directing traffic. And don't EVEN get me started about Boxing Day (that's Dec. 26 to those of you who don't know; Americans, compare it to Black Friday). People literally invent their own parking spaces. It doesn't matter if it was an area with grass and signs; if you'd be blocking someone in (actually, forget Boxing Day - we had to get tow trucks in this November because idiots were parking in driving lanes and boxing vehicles in... and, of course, if one car parked there, then the WHOLE FRICKIN' ROW must be OK for parking!); the only rule was "if the car fits, someone will park there". I remember one year, someone got shot, and all of the news footage showed people barely noticing the blood, the body... except for what the police cordoned off, every square millimetere was filled with people.

Oh yeah, the movie.

Anyhoo, now that you know where I'm coming from, I know they used to rent out smaller "boogie boards" to people, and if you were a kid, you could theoretically "surf" on one. I couldn't imagine actually surfing in the wave pool, though, just because the deepest part wasn't very deep; it got shallow REALLY quick; and the waves were (I imagine; not a surfer here) too small and lasted for a VERY short time.

But now I wanna find the frickin' movie just so I can go, "Oh I remember that" or "Hey, I was just there yesterday!" or "Well THAT is long phuccing gone now!!".

Hey, I've also lived in Edmonton all my life, too! I haven't spent too much time at WEM, though. I'd love to see this movie again, and I'm surprised that someone here has found a copy!

This movie's out on DVD? Or did you buy an "illegal" copy of it?

Just curious, because I'd love to see this movie again. I saw it here in Edmonton five years ago...

I bought a copy from Amazon.com a couple years ago. I'm not sure if they still have it or not, but worth checking around for. Like many people, I only went to this movie because I'm from Edmonton and WEM was a hangout spot in my late teen years. Not too bad of a movie, but did laugh at how Americans picture us Canadians.

I've lived in Edmonton all my life (nearly 37 years). I can't say that WEM was ever a true hangout spot for me. Oh, I've been there a number of times, but just for quick shopping and that's it. Now that I no longer have to worry about being stuck on the Quesnell Bridge for hours each day, I can make the trip to WEM on my days off. (I guess construction around here actually does have some long-term benefits....once it's finally completed....)

As for how Americans picture us, well...this movie mostly showed Edmonton as consisting of the oil refineries and WEM. If we want to change our image, then perhaps we should talk about something other than oil, WEM, and hockey for that matter. Americans probably know more about Alberta's oil sands than they do about our national parks.

Thanks for the info about a copy, by the way!

WEM ice palace was the place to be in 1990. That's where I picked up all the girls :) lol

But now that I'm 39, I've only been there 3 times in the past year and I only live 10 minutes away. It's nice to see that they are slowly renovating some of the mall. It's long over due. I felt bad for the tourists coming to see this mall and then find out it's very out dated.

Yes, the renos are looking good. I wouldn't say the mall is outdated, though. It has a lot of stores, activities, places to eat, etc.

I've never done skating there. As a kid, I did go to the world waterpark and to galaxyland. Now I just pop in and out to do some quick shopping. I live closer to Southgate, but I'd rather go to WEM.
