snow?

has there EVER been a snowless christmas in edmonton? ive lived here since 91 and cant remember there ever not being snow on the ground

reply

it's called Hollywood.... the most unrealistic end of Hollywood...

and the fact that they were filming during the summer... but I am still surprised that they would even film outside during what is supposed to be winter and just say that it's a freaky weather phenomenon.

on the other hand i'm really tired of americans thinking that Canada is covered in snow all year round, calling it the Great White North, so it's nice to hear something different for a change. Not that this movie would have been seen by many americans!

still, the CGI version of west edmonton mall thing made me laugh my ass off just because of how horrible it was

Christmas of '97 when the big El Nino hit and 2005 were completely snowless. If you lived here (Edmonton) during those years it should have stood out as it does with me since it is very unusual.

Yup, one of those years I clearly recall Christmas DAY being brown and yellow grass, no white stuff on most lawns except the occasional back yard which has too much shadow blocking the sunlight during the day. I think it mighta done some very light flurries by the evening but that all melted away within a few hours by the next day.

The non-white landscape made the cover of the 2 major papers, IIRC.

I think that year New Years Eve it finally started to snow more heavily and stayed for a few months, but spring thaw hit us early that year too.

Kinda balances out THIS insane winter season... +_+

Oh yes, I remember December 2005 being snowless. I think it didn't even snow until March 2006 or something like that.

Somehow I can't recall Christmas 1997, even though I was an adult at the time.
