What a preachy ending

So basically don't vote Labour.

Well I wasn't going to, but I can't help but feel a bit violated as a viewer. It didn't need saying anyway, that was the general message of it.

What WERE they thinking with this show?

Exec1 'Hey let's offend everyone with this show'
Exec2 'sounds good, lets start by saying real muslims are terrorists'
Exec1 'yea, then lets blame the government, and by extension the british electorate for it'
Exec2 'So EVERYONE is a terrorist! I like it!'

Arespilgrim preetttyyy much said it all. The worst thing about this, is that jihad wasn't clearly condemned - if anything, it was justified, with the finger pointed at all of us 'Britz'. It's reminiscent of Nazi bloody Germany - Krystallnacht (a night of mindless anti-semitic barbarism) blamed on the innocent Jews it was carried out against ring a bell anyone?

And I don't know if anyone watched another show that was on 4 a couple of weeks ago about immigrant groups. It's main point was that Indians are the group that contribute most to British economy (with high profession jobs etc.) and take the least (in the form of benefits etc.), even though the group is far from the biggest. Pakistanis, on the other hand, who make up a much more considerable amount of the population, contribute the least, and take the most (nearly all of them have unemployed parents, are on benefits, make money off selling stolen goods, and have about 12 children in their family). If leeching off the country's economy wasn't bad enough - they decide to fly over to jihadi camps (probably with plane tickets funded by a mix of black market money and British benefits) to learn how to bloody blow the place up! And then they wonder why they aren't all that bloody popular. And they have the nerve to think all Britons & Americans should convert to Islam? Sorry - can't happen. Who'll pay the tax money to fund their benefits, or buy the goods that they steal and use for money? The country would starve.

And as if it wasn't bad enough - I'm Indian. Now, the less educated of the population seem to think anyone with brown skin is 'a paki'. The amount of times I've been looked at funny or called one because of my skin colour is a joke - and I'm not even muslim! And as you can imagine, this kind of ignorant sh** being on TV REALLY helps. We're being tarred with the same 'terrorist twat' brush. People need to learn how to fkn differentiate. My dad probably hates muslims more than the average white man - which is saying something. Rant over.

reply

did you actually watch the programme? it didn't try to 'justify' terrorism, but explore the motivations behind it. there's a difference between explanation and defence. it's not saying 'the only way to fix stuff is to kill yourself & innocents', it's showing how people can be manipulated into thinking that way by anyone who is skilful enough with words (i.e. the guy speaking at that group meeting)
the rest of your garbled post seems, in summary, to say 'hey, why are you looking at me funny, i'm just as bigoted, hypocritical and ignorant as you are - and so is my dad - so why can't we all get along (except, of course for those horrible pakistanis/muslims/please help me figure out who i'm trying to slate here, a nation or a religion)'.

Can someone delete the racist abuse please?

Never thought I'd be happy to hear about people being racially abused (the poster).

"Can someone delete the racist abuse please?

Some contradiction here. One minute, you want racial abuse deleted, the next you are happy that someone is being racially abused? So, is racial abuse acceptable or not?

Yes, actually it does ring a bell, murderous Hindu fanatics egged on to exterminate fellow Indians but only if they are Muslims, by a Goverment led by self acknowledged Hitler sympathisers, one of whom goes by the wonderful name of Bal Thackeray. All of this in modern day India too.
The 'other' programme was hosted by Jon Snow and was a collection of statistics-- broadly accurate i might add-- within a contextual review of ethnic groups in the UK. Fortunately, it was edited and produced by an enlightened journalist, not by a fascist father and son who hate Muslims more than the 'average white man.'
What a dubious choice! Differentiate between hate fuelled fascists and 'terrorist twat', maybe Channel 4 might have some programme on this subject in the pipeline?

This reply from minidevil101-1 is a lot of rubbish.
I am not Indian,I am white British atheist.
He calls himself an Indian but he lives in the UK,is he not a Briton of Indian background?
This is part of the problem,if people choose to move to another country should they not try and fit in a bit and not exist in their own ethnic bubble?

There are lots of Indian doctors and scientists working in the UK,but they are not here to help the British out, they are here to improve their own lives and feed their families, the medical profession is a career like any other, few people do it for nothing and and time spent at a British hospital looks good on your cv.
If these Indian people went to America or Canada, and many do,they would find that more questions would be asked about their abilities and how well they spoke English, hey slag off Britain but they come here due to our historic ties.

If India, and Australia for that matter are as great as people from these countries say why did they not stay there instead of coming to Britain and slagging it off ?.
If I chose to leave my homeland to better my life then I would not slag off the place that took me in.

As someone who supports immigration I feel betrayed by many migrants who refuse to accept their part of the deal by trying to respect the majority of Britons who don't support their tribal hatreds or religions.

Anyway the "INDIAN" guy makes an attack on Pakistanis, well British people of Pakistani descent, but he really means muslims,he is probably a Hindu.
I doubt if he loves the many millions of muslim Indian passport holders.
India is supposed to be a secular republic but it will son be a Hindu dictatorship if some people get their way.

He is right that some muslims are suicide bombers but he can't get away with saying that only muslims abuse the benefits systems, sikhs and hindus are just as likely to claim benefits for their large families and all migrant groups abuse the NHS by having their sick foreign living relatives "become sick" when visiting the UK.

Years ago I worked for the DHSS (now called the benefits agency),I know people who work in local government and income tax.
I would say that you don't get many migrants from the sub continent claiming benefits, you do get false claims for VAT refunds housing benefit and so on.

Are you kidding? Why would you watch something for so long if you were so unable to comprehend it?

The ending was a video much like others of the same type. It said similar things. Because she's supposed to be a similar person.

The film's message wasn't "don't vote labour". And it wasn't saying suicide bombing is a good thing (which I guess you think the message of the film was too, since that's what was at the end).

Seriously. When I don't understand something I either skip back, or turn it off. How did you get through nearly 4 hours?

I agree that the ending possibly was a little preachy. There's nothing wrong with a tv programme having a message though. That's what TV should be in my opinion. Makes a nice change from 'reality' TV.

The ending did seem a little 'anti-New Labour' but then they have presided over the greatest asault on our civil liberties in living memory. I think the message was that government (any government) is a very dangerous thing which must be constantly supervised by the eletorate to stop it from becoming corupt.

This doesn't happen in Britain any more. People do not engage with conventional politics in the way that they should. Turnout is low at elections and judging by the tabloids people neither have nor want a real understanding of the issues which affect us all. This is very worrying indeed. These issues were touched on during the programme and the lack of an ability to affect a change was what drove the girl to engage with the fanatics.

reply

It was a bit preachy, but the aim was to describe the reasoning behind someone who decides to do a suicide bombing or whatever is.

I agree don't vote new labour though. People should get more informed about politics, and not just read the tabloids.

The government seems to have a need to be seen to be doing things, and if the general public isn't paying too much attention, the gov't doesn't really care that much about overlooking the human rights and screwing up the lives of a few unfashionable minority individuals.

The government are being "terrorists" when they scare us into accepting authoritarianism.

BTW i'm definitely not saying it's cool to go and blow people up! Just pay more attention to politics, discuss it with other people, don't be afraid to speak your mind, and make an informed decision come election time.

reply

eft-3 You write - Don't be afraid to speak your mind. You must surely know that speaking your mind is impossible in the UK these days, unless you are 'on message' as dictated by the PC powers that be. This government has introduced some of the most draconian legislation in British history, and much of it is aimed by default at the muslim population, because to date they have been the only suicide bombers involved in attacks in the UK. The laws could however, be turned on the rest of us at will, and we would be unable to prevent it. However, one word out of anyone working in the public sector, e.g. about the numbers of immigrants among us and their commitment or lack of to the country can lead to accusations of racism, disciplinary action and/or dismissal, and all under the most secretive and underhandeed conditions . I have seen that very thing happen not once but twice in the UK public sector to two very very senior professionals, so no one can tell me it is an urban myth.

Thank God I live in the US, where my freedom to speak out and say I believe that there are too many illegal immigrants entering the country is enshrined in the Constitution - you know, that worthless piece of paper fit only for bathroom use, according to most Brits and other euros. But we wouldn't be without it here, I can tell you, and you could do with something similar over there IMHO..

BTW, I noticed with interest that the piece the orchestra were playing at the Canary Wharf open air concert when Sohail approaches his sister was Bruch's beautiful arrangement for cello and orchestra of the Jewish Kol Nidre prayer for the dead sung on Yom Kipur - nice touch!!

Further to the matter of speaking your mind in the UK - apparently even MPs are not immune from the attentions of the Stalinist Nulab state police. Damian Green, Shadow (i.e. Tory) Immigration Minister was arrested and held for 9 hours under Anti-Terrorist legislation because he dared to mention in public the fact that the Nulab Immigration Minister was knowingly employing illegals as security of some sort - the facts are all very difficult to winkle out,as per, but he was arrested and held, and is still under suspicion apparently, for speaking his mind. What happened to Parliamentary privilege, what happened to freedom of speech, what the hell is going on over there???

The ending was terribly misguided and fluffed. It kind of ruined the credibility of the whole thing.

I don't think the film's creator(s) were preaching to us not to vote Labour, if that's what you mean. The film showed what ridiculous justifications these sadly naive, misguided and blinkered young religious zealots use for acts of murder. One thinks of the fella who talks about the nutter who shot the abortionist in Richard Dawkins' documentary 'Root of all Evil?' Religion is responsible for people becoming tragically misguided and, in the case of Nasim in 'Britz', being tragically manipulated by idiotic but dangerous individuals who are, in turn, themselves manipulated by idiotic but dangerous individuals.
