Episode 2 - With the kitten

I stupidly missed the episode on Friday. Could anyone tell me what happened? Did she press the button in the end?

The girl was taken to a room where for 5 minutes she was told not to press a button and was regressed to her childhood. She was asked to draw pictures, not given things that the adult Derren had like a cup of tea, talked to like a child, that sort of thing. She was repeatedly told not to press the button, because if she did it would electrocute a kitten. With 2 minutes left Derren left the room. She eventually pressed the button in tears with one second left. Of course, it didn't really electrocute the kitten and she was given £500 and went off on a happy surfing holiday where she was practically immune to the power of negative suggestion thanks to her experience.

It was a bit of a weird ending really. And pretty depressing considering it was meant to be a 'treat'.

What about the poor kitten?

I knew they wouldn't actually kill it, but it was so cute! And I started getting worried for the poor little thing.

But I liked when Derren was getting the kids to "not" open a box, and they were all lying about it, saying a hand came out and pressed it!

I refused to watch it because I think it's a bit sick really to do that to a kitten. So what if it wasn't real, the kitten wouldn't understand whats happening and who knows what longterm affects it would have on the cats behaviour. I assume it was properly cared for during filming.

The cat looked absolutely fine. It had no idea what was going on, happily wandered around the glass box it was in for a few minutes, and got let out at the end. It wasn't in any real danger, and even if it had been, it wouldn't have known. Hardly animal cruelty.

I thought there was something weird about it. Even a very curious child would surely not want to press a button if they were told it would kill a cat?

Also it seemed a bit strange that she did it right at the last second, as if she was told to to keep tension. His shows are normally amazing but this one seemed a bit... strange.

I still have confidence that he does not use stooges... but I can't begin to explain how he does his tricks!

Dont look through this hole = curiosity
Push the button = known outcome, no curiosity. ???

Yeah, but it's different when it's Derren who's telling you something. He was obviously putting the compulsion into her head to push the button. I mean, he gets guys to give him his wallet just by asking so he's apparently a pretty hard guy to mentally resist.

"If you don't know what something does and you're told not to touch it, curiosity may well get the better of you. However, if you've been told what that thing does and it's something unpleasant, such as electrocuting a kitten, I can't understand why you'd have any urge to push it."

Well, a cat lover pushed the button, so that must say something. Perhaps you could prove your theory right, but I'd bet that Derren could influence you to do whatever he wanted you to do, as he did with her. He's a clever bloke!

THAT IS WANGANUMB!!!

The thing that really spooked me in this episode was the look on the poor girl's face in the moments before she presses the button. Seconds before she was playing with the cat, and then she's in tears as she looks from the cat to the button. It was a little uncomfortable to watch.
