Clemente Quote + Lack of Follow Thru

I liked that Miguel's hero changed from a decent current Major Leaguer to a legend both on and off the field. And I know he was only 19 and immature but he quoted Clemente as saying something along the lines of if you have a chance to help someone, and don't, etc. Then Sugar goes on to sit behind his door as he hears a woman being abused.

I know that's predictable but it would've been the right thing to do and I'm surprised they went the opposite way.

Thoughts?

Not everyone can live up to the legacies of their idols-- Clemente was a hell of a baseball player, too, but Miguel decides to give up on that idea as well.

It's a nice thought until you actually have to do it; going into that room could have been dangerous. It's like baseball-- everyone loves talking about how great it'll be when they're playing in the majors and earning millions, but when Miguel realizes it's actually kind of hard, he abandons the idea.

The irony in Clemente's quote is that he died in a plane crash enroute to help earthquake victims in Nicaragua. The fact that Miguel thought twice about intervening in the hallway incident shows wisdom and insight. He may have wound up dead, just like his idol.
