there's not gonna be a 100 things

)I learned from this movie
2) hate about this movie
3) found stupid in this movie..
etc.

this movie was rather simple, with no plot, more like a paragraph taken out from a street orphan's life..

I was wondering the other day - y aren't there movies that are of simple men - i mean life in itself is a huge struggle - Y do we've to look into fantasies (90% of the time) for our plots/conflicts and entertainment.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy the movie, at least i did.

While most movies are an escape from reality, this one was an escape into reality. For a guy living in the burbs and working a steady job, this sure was a harsh reminder of how most of the world actually lives. I'll never look at the kids hustling chocolates in the streets the same way again.

It kind of reminded me of "Killer of Sheep" with its American-realist style. America is such an amazing place that there's plenty of material to make a lot more films of this style IMO. Hey Hollywood! Cancel "Deuce Bigalow 3" and fund the next Bahrani film instead.

I like 'em thinly-sliced like this, too. Tsai Ming-Liang's "What Time is it There," and Abbas Kiarostami's "The Wind Will Carry Us" are good examples from foreign fields, too.

I thought the movie was great. Ale is an incredibly resourceful and sympathetic character, and Alejandro Polanco who plays him is an unbelievable actor. The kid is practically in every frame of the movie...

On the topic of fantasy and escapism, I laughed when I saw the IMDB recommendations on the bottom of the page: "The Basketball Diaries", "Death Wish 3", "Radio Patrol", "Herbie: Fully Loaded" (!!!) and "James and the Giant Peach." Looks like their algorithm needs a little more tweaking...

A couple years later, it's hard to believe, but I think the recommendations have actually improved. They sure couldn't have been worse than the ones you listed.

Now, at the bottom of the page I'm seeing recommendations for My Own Private Idaho, Push, Grave of the Fireflies, and Midnight Cowboy. All of which seem pretty reasonable.
