Please help explain the backstory (SPOILERS)

I admit that I am asking because I only paid half-attention for 3/4 of the movie (was working on my laptop). I started getting into it and watched to the end, understanding most of it.

However, I am a little unclear on a few things:

1) Were they actually sisters that got separated from adoption?

2) Did Lucie know who the killer was eventually? I mean, did she know it was that girl from her childhood? At what point did she realize it? Did the killer know that Lucie was her sister?

3) What actually happened when they were young? They were both trapped in rooms for some reason that I couldn't tell. I'm assuming it was their mom that was dead in that tub with flies?

4) It seemed that the girl (lucie?) that escaped (in the flashbacks) gave the stuffed animal to the girl that was still trapped. But then, in the end, they showed the stuffed animal being thrown away in Lucie's garbage. Didn't she give it away to the other girl? How did that happen?

Anyways, if anyone has the answers to these questions, thought I'd ask. Amazingly, this movie has very little info on it in English. Hoping with Inglorious Basterds getting the main actress a lot more exposure, this movie will be seen by more people.

I thought it was Lucie the girl who received the elephant. Becasue, how else could she have kept it for years?
It never ocurred tome that they were sisters. And I dont think Lucie knew for cartain who the killer was.
Other than that I'm pretty much as clueless as you. And I WAS paying attention.
I know that filmmakers don't want to show a lot of exposition because they think it "dumbs down" the story and that the audience should be able to put the pieces together, but in this case I wouldv'e liked a bit more of information. Too many unanswered issues.
