Just a few things I might as well bring up... *Spoilers*

-Does anyone else think the movie shouldve at least mentioned that his dad had Aspergers? They only ever brought it up when Savannah (Amanda) told John she thought he was AUTISTIC. That was a major change from the book and his aspergers played a HUGE part in the book but not really the movie.

-Did they get back together in the end? in the book, Tim didn't even die. And in the movie they just hugged but I couldn't tell if they got back together or not?

-Also for people who have read the book: I may not remember this correctly but it never once said he got shot in the book. It said his friend got shot (which was in the movie but still different) but never mentioned John getting shot.

-I didn't like all the changes from the book to the movie..anyone else agree? I mean I understand it's gotta be a little different but they took out all the good parts of the book and left them out of the movie!! The book (in my opinion) was far better than the movie.

countrygirl960960,

I think John and Savannah get back together in the theater version.

I think it was all foreshadowed.

Remember how Alan said hello to John? Savannah said that Alan would talk to no one but her. But Alan talked to John.

Remember when John's dad was showing Savannah his coins? He showed her a very expensive one with a spoked-wheel on it, and said, How would you like to carry that in your pocket? In the end of the film, John is hitching a bicycle to the lamp post, symbolically linking the end to the coin scene. Savannah always had John in her pocket.

Tim is gone, and basically gave his blessing to John.

So I think John, Savannah, and Alan will form a happy family.

(Did you see the smile on Amanda's face in the last scene? Oh, yeah. They were doin' the nasty as the credits rolled!)

Thanks. I thought maybe they were going to get married but I thought maybe not since in the book Tim survived..

There is an alternate ending on the DVD that is like the book.

Savannah is on the porch looking at the moon, and John is standing under a tree nearby looking at the moon. (You know it.)

Very sad.

I don't think you have to necessarily assume they are 100% percent together - people who have read the book know that they also hug and kiss and almost sleep together when they meet again at the end, and they still don't wind up together. Plus, her husband has just died...seems kind of soon.

I have yet to watch the film but i've read the book.

But in the book John never gets shot or wounded but it mention his friend Tony gets shot in the hand so he gets to leave the forces.

Maybe it was ment to be :)

Yeah, i dont know why they changed that either! I guess it was to add suspence.

My friends and I were talking about it (they had seen the movie and i had only read the book) but one of my friends was like "The only thing that was sad was when he got shot, but im glad they ended up together in the end!" and i was like "WHAT?! I have no idea what your talking about..."

The book and the movie went two totally different ways, lol.

Only person who got shot in the book was Tony in the hand and that was like a one paragraph thing.

Someone needs to show them my reputation is more than just a rumor.

If you watch the DVD they filmed another ending that is more like the book where they do not get back together. I think that they chose this ending which many times studios do to have greater appeal to audiences. And Yes I believe that they do get back together and thats why they chose this ending!

They definitely should have mentioned Aspergers. They should have explained the differences in the dad and the kid instead of lumping them together.

well she did say when she mentioned autism that there are milder forms of autism. and isnt aspergers considered a mild form of autism?
