Question (spoiler!!!)

Ok so I know the book might be a bit different but I was wondering for those who have (or anyone's thoughts really), HONESTLY, why did Savannah marry Tim???
As a person I would not put up with being a soldiers girlfriend or wife so I wouldn't even start a relationship knowing that, so I knew she couldn't handle it. After awhile it ate away at her and she ended it. At first I thought she just said she got engaged so that it would ensure the end of the relationship, but when John comes back she's married. I understand that Tim got sick and she needed to help with him and Allen. But why did she marry him? Was she in love with him? She never says that she fell in love with him. Her love for John was so deep and real. Why did she give that up? It just angered me. She could have taken care of them without marrying the guy. Idk.
Ps, did her and John end up together in the end, they kind of leave it open. I know they are meant for each other but with all that time and things they went through, their relationship would obviously be very different and not the same at all.

Her marrying Tim honestly took me by surprise, my jaw dropped. I definitely didn't see it coming. And I was glad that when Savannah said their little thing before he left, he didn't say it back. He's too good for her. Ugh

If I had to guess she probably married Tim for legal reasons more so than love. I'm guessing that after marrying Tim she probably legally adopted Allan. Which I am guessing reassured both Savannah and Tim.
