Airport full of people after 9/11?

When John and Savannah go to the airport and his Dad shows up to see him off the airport is full of what appear to be civilians. Maybe I'm off on the timeline but this is supposed to be taking place right after 9/11 right? All commercial flights were grounded for awhile after 9/11 so why the airport full of people?

reply

I wondered that myself.. Airports were shut down for a month or so, all air space was closed..Good catch!

It wasn't immediately after 9-11. Some time had passed. Obviously John was in a different country when 9-11 happened and he was able to make it home for the weekend. So I think a couple of weeks had passed by. The airports were definately not closed for a whole month, I recall flying about 2 or 3 weeks afterwards.

Airports weren't closed for that long after the attacks. I flew from St. Louis to New York (MacArthur, but there were flights to/from JFK and Laguardia)on October 11, 2001 for my grandmother's funeral.

airports were only closed a few days maybe a week but for sure not a month.

it would be around two weeks. my sister lived neared logan in boston. she said it was strangely quiet for the two weeks after, it was equally strange when you heard the first planes again.

I remember noises of planes flying being freaky when they first started. I definitely kept an eye on them as they passed over manhattan.

Airplanes were only grounded for a week.

I was in England at the time and flew to Ireland a few days after 9/11 and then a few days after that back to America.

and they were all at the entrance not at the gate....

Airport full of people after 9/11?

I flew a little over a month after. Bustling as usual it was.

reply

They were closed for two weeks after September 11th.

reply

They were only closed for a few days, not two weeks. I worked in the aviation industry at the time and scheduled flights after 9/11.

reply

9/11 happened on a Tuesday. I was stuck in California because of the grounding. By Friday, 9/14, planes were flying again and I was able to fly home.

reply

Not sure which airports you are talking about, but I got married on September 15, 2001 and flew from Cincinnati to Maui the next day, so the airport was open 5 days later, at the very latest. And the airport was full of people.

Lol, crazy, imagine the added economic impact if they had grounded flights for weeks. Most people are way off on the facts here. According to the Federal Aviation Administration, civilian air traffic was allowed to resume on September 13, 2001, but with stricter security checks. So civilian planes were actually only grounded for 2 days, (In fact not even quite 48 full hours). Although it did take several days to clear the backlog of delayed passengers who were all grounded on 9/11. So the person here who said that they took a flight on the 14th is definitely for real. Many people actually flew on the 13th.

Actually my friend flew out to visit me in Seattle and was suppose to fly back home on the 12th. Obviously that didn't happen, but it was either the 13th or 14th that they did fly back home. I wouldn't say that it was back to 'business as usual' as it did take quite some time for people to feel comfortable to fly again.
