Question about the ending(**Spoilers**)

I saw this film last night at the LA Downtown FF and loved it...but when Viv reveals she is pregnant, I kept wondering about the drinking and smoking she does throughout the film. She's probably supposed to be very early on in her pregnancy but, even so, aren't these things a woman is not supposed to do when pregnant?

Does this mean Viv was leaning toward a decision to abort (since she never answers Wilson when he asks what she'll do) or was this supposed to show, again, that she is irresponsible in nature?

I would ask if she was even actually pregnant given her tendency to continually lie when with Wilson, but with such a sincere tone at that point in the film, I assume she actually is...

Anyone have an opinion?

Anyway, wonderful film! 9/10!!!

Very nice question! I'm afraid only the filmmakers can help... I don't think it means she's leaning towards the abortion though.

Who cares, she was an idiot and he was just after a 'shag'. The ending was a total cop-out imo.

I fully expected him to say, "What do you mean, you don't know if you'll keep it? You've already give it fetal alcohol syndrome, you idiot." I was a little sorry he didn't.

When she was getting ready to reveal her secret I was imagining in my own mind what that could be and I quickly disregarded her being pregnant because of the drinking and smoking. But, then again, I wasn't surprised when that *was* revealed as her secret.

I think many, many women drink and smoke at the beginning of their pregnancies (sometimes longer) because they are in denial...or just don't care (for whatever reason). I think Vivian was going out with ONE LAST HURRAH so to speak and while she didn't seem to get drunk (so maybe there was some restraint?), I think she just wanted for forget for one evening (her not calling her mom and boyfriend lead me to believe) her predicament.

I don't think she was pregnant to start. I think she was looking to get pregnant for whatever reason.
This why I think she 'interviewed' so many guys looking for the love of her life.
I also think this is why she took his picture from the bathroom mirror.
Also why I think she got so bothered by him having condoms, if he was going to use protection she couldn't achieve her goal.

my 2 cents.

Well, I think she is pregnant. When she is shown calling him at the beginning of the movie there is a lot of medication shown on the table. I couldn't see it exactly, but I guess it is an early hint that she is pregnant.

About the drinking and smoking: I guess it is some sort of denial. I was actually quite disturbed by the amount she smoked even though I wasn't sure then whether she is pregnant or not. In my opinion, at the end of the movie she is going to her sis, thinking it over for a while and then will give him a call. She liked him, that is why she took his pic. Have no clue, though, whether she will be keeping the baby.

wow, way to make something out of nothing. this isn't the usual suspects and niether is it Mulholland dr. no reason to look for conspiracies here.

lol, it totally just thought she was either A. Doing pills for the fun of it or B. Bi-polar, borderline, depression, or something. I lean towards B because she's slightly more insane than most women.

Heidi Klum was visibly pregnant when Seal met her.....and did he care, did he let that fact get in the way of their strong chemistry? No siree.

Just goes to show what immature minds the scriptwriter and director of this movie have, to think that just because a girl is already pregnant that THAT would ruin the possibility of two people who are meant to be together.

Guys, the ending was a mysoginist, inmature COP OUT.

I agree, her character lacks consistency. In the beginning she's narcotic (at home and in the cafe) then settles down as soon as they start walking around LA.
