Panama???

When they're getting ready to dump the body, one of the guys says if they cross out of Majorcan waters, they'll be in Panamanian waters so would have to be tried there.

Sorry, run that by me one more time.

If they cross out of Majorcan waters, they'll be in Panamanian waters???

Panama isn't even remotely close to Majorca, in fact it's on the other side of the freaking world!

For those unfamiliar, Majorca, where they are, is in the Mediterranian Sea, which is in the south of Europe. Panama is in South America, just south of Mexico.

Was that guy meant to be a complete dumbass or did the writers genuinely think Panama was close or next to Majorca?? Noone else there questioned it so I presume it was an error in the writing, a pretty massive one at that!

The only explanation I can come up with is maybe they meant Monaco? Which is on the south coast of France and possibly within sailing distance of Majorca.

What the hell?????

reply

No no. The boat is registered in Panama, therefore, once they cross into international waters, they are subject to Panamanian law.

I know it's been almost a year since this was posted but I felt I had to expand on the other response to this query.

1. Panama isn't on the other side of the world from Mallorca, it's accross the Atlantic ocean. Admittedly the Atlantic ocean is pretty big, but the other side of the world from Mallorca would be somewhere like Fiji or French Polynesia.

2. Like the other poster said, he was talking about dumping the body of the girl in international waters, because Panama is the country that the boat was registered to, his point being that Panama is a corrupt country and that they would most likely get away with the crime. (Maybe a rather silly suggestion in hindsight but he was clearly desperate about the situation he was in.)

3. Panama isn't in South America, it's in Central America, which is actually a part of North America, continentally speaking.

4. Monaco?? You got Monaco from Panama?? Lol. Oh, and lol at points 1, 2 and 3 also. Nice one!

"Or at this point would it be like throwing a hot dog down a hallway?"

About 5 minutes after he suggests that International Waters means Panamanian law he admits to one of the others that he 'wrapped it all up in legalese but basically we're all *beep* - it was just a ruse to get rid of the body
