Not quite sure...

I'm new to this show and have only watched the first 2 episodes. Now, I've watched Midsomer Murders, Inspector Morse, Inspector Lewis, Luther and Endeavour and have loved all of them. For some reason, I'm not warming up to this one as much as the previously mentioned shows. The character of Havers is a hot mess. Most of the time she looks like she just got out of bed. Her sloppy appearance is very distracting. Also there is absolutely no chemistry between her and Inspector Lynley, who appears to be a bit cold at times. I've only watched the first two episodes, and will continue to watch the rest, because I absolutely love these types of murder mystery shows, but I have to admit, this one is my least favorite so far.

I suggest you at least finish the first series before making decisions.

I'll continue to watch, it has gotten a little better after the first 2 episodes, and is better than most of the crap on American TV with only a few exceptions.

Yeah, keep watching. I just binged over the course of a week or so, and was blown away by the gradual character development over the seasons. Particularly Havers, what a nuanced performance. Just like crusty people in real life, they're like that because they're actually softies inside, slow to get to know. Particularly in seasons 2 and on, you'll see that aspect of the character. This is now one of my top favourite BBC procedurals.

I finally finished all the seasons and I grew to really like this show, except for the last season which was only 2 episodes. When Lynley sleeps with his friend's daughter seemed really out of character for him, especially since he knew her since she was a young girl. The very last episode was just OK, but didn't feel like a finale to me...perhaps they decided to not continue after these episodes were produced. Anyway, those two episodes were the weakest ones for me in an otherwise very good series. Also wanted to mention that when they killed off Helen, I wished it was the first actress who portrayed her that died, since she was much more unlikable than the second actress to play Helen. It would have been a more satisfying death for me!

When you go to post, do you see the button at the top of the page that says "Spoiler"? Please make use of it if you continue to comment. My husband and I are only just starting the second season. It would've been really, REALLY nice if we could have found out on our own about the important plot points you just spilled.
