watching the groom (spoilers)

I found Kevin so adorable and charming throughout the entire movie, but I found myself underwhelmed by his expression during the big moment when jane was walking down the aisle. Was he facing the sun? Cause he looked a little squinty.
So much was put onto that moment, and it just didn't work for me, which was very disappointing.

he was facing the sun. However, I do agree with you that his expression during this scene was underwhelming.

reply

Yeah, he must have been facing the sun. Which must have sucked because they probably filmed that for a long time and facing the sun is not fun. I did think that his little smile thing was kinda cute.

I totally agree! The moment they talked about that moment in the movie I wondered what his face at that moment would look like (well we all knew the 2 of them will get married in the end) and I expected something that would blow me away, but..... not really :S

What does Tyra say to a guy before love makin'? You wanna be on top?

reply

Wow, I completely didn't notice the squint or underwhelming look or anything. I guess I just got completely wrapped up in the romance like a sissy girl. I was focused on how she finally got to have her moment. And seriously, if you're walking down the aisle to that man, does it matter if he's squinting? Cuz I don't know about you, but I'd be good either way. ;-)

Yes he was facing the sun BUT the grin on his face was like a kid on Christmas morning.

He was so happy and cheesy in that scene. He totally had the look they talked about in the movie. His smile was like she's was that one gift he was so excited about getting for Christmas

reply

Aww, you guys didn't like it?
I dunno, I thought it was adorable. But then again, he could've been crossing his eyes and sticking his tongue out in that scene and I would think it was adorable.

reply

perhaps it would've been better if he not only had a big grin... but he could have mouthed "WOW" so she could have noticed. Then her response could've been more definitive. Anyway - loved the movie. I'm nitpicking.

I thought the look in the end could have been better however who cares she marries him.

If you look closely, his emotion makes him look down; when he raises his head and looks at her, he tears up, and then his true happiness takes over. The editing doesn't allow for that--or for any of Marsden's scenes, really--so that's probably why it's hard to detect.
Another time when Marsden has tears in his eyes--and they keep coming, but he doesn't wipe them away (I think they evaporate quickly) was the boat scene, when she's at the microphone talking to him about their relationship. He stands there & tears form at the corner of his eye (his left eye)...when he stands before her, you can also detect the emotional impact her declaration has-just look at his expression. The editor has again chopped it--but "pause" the image if you're looking at it on DVD. His face shows a mixture of love, relief, and emotion, and it only begins to change & he smiles when he sees how flustered she is--and then that phrase: "Get over here!"
I have heard women scoff at that phrase--how dare he--but that's part of his emotional reticence as well as his sense of humor.

I must say I agree with the OP here. I didn't really think shooting the beach wedding scene urinf high noon was a good idea. For one the look he gave her was definitely a smile with squinty eyes. And he's smile was a cheesy one in a good way but in a omg the sun is blinding me bad way like no Heigl is not hawt at all. Which is too bad because I thought he would have looked more enamored.
