Does anyone actually like Tess?

I was watching DVD on TV on FX and one of the interviews with the director, she said that they wanted to make Tess so that she's still lovable and that people are still rooting for her so that she's not just seen as a terrible unlikable person. Or something similar to that. I was just wondering if anyone felt anything other than hate for her? I couldn't stand her through the whole movie but she really made me angry when she destroyed their mother's dress, with an imo very unattractive dress. I just can't see how anyone could like her.

At the end of the movie she was OK.

reply

I couldn't stand her...

reply

I don't. Even when she changes in the end, I still don't like her.

I saw the movie again last night on tv. I'd gorgotten how smug, complacent and generally unaware of anyone else Tess is. Can't stand her!

reply

Did not like her throughout the movie, but she was actually in love with her fiance... Jane's boss, so I felt for her when she lost him. She was miserable afterwards. Then Jane got happily married before her and Teas supported her which is good.. so shell likely support tess's marriage

reply

Couldn't stand her. And when she cut up her mother's wedding dress...I would have needed someone to hold my earrings. Lol

reply

No one that narcissistic really changes. Didn't find Tess likable.

-Jane (ha, just noticed the coincidence)

reply

Didn't like her at all until the last scene at Jane's wedding where it was shown that she had apparently changed and grown as a person.

This is my signature.

I can't stand the fact that she lied about her whole self to get George with no worries about it and let him fall in love with her with that base. I especially hated the scene with her describing her wedding to Jane with something like "I know why you're upset. You wanted to get married in mom's dress at the boathouse too" but that's all she said, like just waiting for Jane to say it was okay. Even if it wasn't, she had no problem doing it, and then changing their moms dress, especially still knowing Jane still wanted to wear it. Unless she thought Jane was not going to wear it or get married at the boathouse anymore because of her. Ugh.

Currently watching the movie. I hate her more and more as the movie goes on. Not that Jane's passive aggression is great. But 2 feet of the paper humiliating Jane and all Teas can do is yell and scream at Jane about herself. And in the scene where she changes their mom's dress, after Jane confronts her, she basically says how she can do whatever she wants because Jane won't hurt anyone and insults her and when Jane says she makes everything about herself, Tess says, I don't understand what you mean! I wanted to kill her! (Not literally. Just can't think of more than wanting to slap her, but

...but I think she deserves more than just a slap.)

Sorry, my post cut off, but I can't edit it on my phone.

I thought she was a spoiled selfish witch until I found out what had happened to her in Europe. Then I came to like her a little.

Being selfish was the point of Tess's character existing, but must admit they really pushed the boat out on how unlikeable she was. By the films end I truly wondered whether Trent could really forgive Tess, as I certainly wouldn't.....

Nope... Well I certainly didn't. The fact she was so nasty made her unattractive too.

I specially disliked her when she made the newspaper article all about how it affected her and even blamed Jane for it, not even acknowledging how it would affect Jane. Selfish.
