Yeah. Paul is an example of what can happen when a kid who is gifted is given a free pass on everything because no one wants to ruin their "bright future". In the aftermath, his father is talking about how he had special lessons and tutors, and he was fluent enough in English and French that they were planning to send him to Oxford University or Sorbonne once he graduated.
Sometimes, people get this tunnel-vision and they're only focused on the future, rather than the present. This often happens with athletes, hence why they get away with everything at school. Of course, since Paul was so smart, he was probably exceptionally talented at hiding his misdeeds. This would probably be why a thug like Anders would gravitate toward him. They both had something to offer each other. Paul offered creative ways to make trouble and not get caught, while Anders likely offered physical protection against anybody that DID want to retaliate against Paul.
Personally, I like Anders' reaction much better. Big "tough guy" goes down screaming like a little wuss. :)
