To me they are:

1. a penniless table waiter in the USA can make a difference
2. Educate your girls; your country might have a chance
3. Aid to Africa is really a black hole. If people in a foodless wasteland are given food, what's the accomplishment? That they'll need more food tomorrow. (Better to send them a suitcase and a horse to get out of there and over to some place where they can subsist.) I realize that many of the people in need were victims of theft and violence, but not sure that once they were in that situation that staying there is the best solution for them.
