Did you like Jude Law as Watson?

Because I did:)
And I would like to know if Jude Law had met your expectations or not?

He met mine. The part was well-written and he played it nicely; I enjoy him in the role.

Yep. I thought he was great.

Jude plays this role perfectly. I can't come up with a single flaw.

Jude law surpassed my expectations althoguh this was mainly as I don't rate him as an actor. Gattaca being perhaps the only film I rate him in.

However, I think law is excellent in SH. Playing it almost perfectly... although I do prefer Mrtin Freeman's watson slightly. He has that solid, understated quality I feel is so apt.

well uh .. no.. at least he has nothing to do with the classical Watson in my mind - Older, fatter with a heavy mustache. Not some beautifull Hollywood model.

reply

You do realize that Watson in the original Holmes stories was a young, attractive, ladies man. I think your mistaking previous film adaptations for canon.

Its something you'll get used to a mental mind *beep* can be nice!

I've never seen Jude Law in anything before, but I am very impressed with his Watson. There was great working chemistry between him and RDJ. I may look up some of his other movies. Any recommendations, guys?

Jude law and Michael Caine in Sleuth. A chamber piece which is just basically the two of them verbally sparring with each other. A very intense film, but the chemistry is amazing if a little unhinged.

@ n-j-t, My Dad had the Olivier/Caine DVD from the 1970s and I really enjoyed it. However, I shall try and get this version, especially as Kenneth Branagh and the great late Harold Pinter was involved.
Thank you n-j and everyone who gave several great examples of Mr Law’s cinema work *hugs*

That's Nigel Bruce you're thinking of, in the Basil Rathbone films, which have very little to do with anything Conan Doyle ever wrote. Mr Ritchie's offerings are far, far closer to the originals.

Watson was born around 1853, we think. We know that he finished his medical training in 1878, did a short course at Netley, joined the army as a medical officer and was sent out to Afghanistan; he was wounded at the Battle of Maiwand in 1880, returned to England and met Holmes at Bart's in either 1881 or 1882, depending on how long you think it took him to get home. Either way, he was still under 30, as was Holmes.

Watson, as someone says above, was a handsome fellow and very susceptible; Holmes teases him about his 'natural advantages' and consults him as an authority on 'the fair sex'. That sounds quite a lot like Jude Law to me.

Loved him as Watson. And of course, his great chemistry with Holmes. He has won me over as a fan with this movie. Pity his imdb board is colonized by his fangirls so it's hard to have a proper discussion there. Wish they'd get their own angelfire board or something. I didn't realize the versitility of this man till I went to have a look at his works!

reply

no i dont "like" him.. i love him.. or rather.. i am IN LOVE with him.

honestly, Jude Law should continue to style his hair like that, including facial hair.. and dress like its the 1890s.. because..... seriously.. DAMN!

but really.. hes fantastic, I love the stories, and he fits the character so well its a joy to watch him.
