What I learned from this most excellent documentary...

#1 Despite all the BS this film shows us, I like this little family. There'something in this film we all can relate to.

#2 Deep down Cindy really loves Frank, otherwise she would not have hung around for 25 years.

#3 Frank and Cindy did something right -CJ could have really been screwed up, but he's got it together.

#4 Frank is wiser than most would think.

#5 Most importantly, this family has an unbreakable bond and deep love for each other.

#6, Gotta give them credit for their candor.

#7 I thought it was wonderful that Frank got up on stage and performed at CJ's birthday bash, and how he took the time and put forth effort into making the other tracks in lieu of band members.

#8 I think CJ is probably proud of his parents and in knowing how much they care about him.

#9 Cindy shouldn't beat herself up so much over the past -she's a better mom than she realizes.

#10 There's lessons to be learned from this family- if you don't understand why I think this, then you need to re-watch it until you do!

#11 Don't underestimate the value of 15 minutes of fame!

Sorry for my previous post- the filmmaker's name is "GJ", not "CJ"!
I know should go back and do a proper edit, so sorry for that one too!

I agree with everything you said here. GJ was not wrong when he said his parents are cinematic gold. You couldn't write characters as raw, complicated and inexplicably endearing as Frank and Cindy. Great job, GJ.

I don't know that they did anything "right." Lots of people with crappy parents turn out fine, and the parents deserve little credit. Maybe in this case, there's a central core of love in the house, so I guess you could say they did that right.

I do t think we really know enough to say whether it's because of them that he turned out like he did. We don't really know much about him to even say how he ended up, and we didn't see the upbringing.

I would say that from what I've seen, I would give very little credit to them. They're both very self centered and short sighted based on this doc. She tried to exploit him for his fame/money but it backfired, and he's currently using her to avoid growing up and being an adult.

They are a couple of characters though, nobody can deny that. She is someone who wants to be on stage and the big star but has no skills, so she latched onto someone whose star was rising and it still didn't work. He is like the high school kid who joined a garage band and never matured beyond that. They both drink to excess and make excuses that don't even make sense for why they're in the position they are.

Either way there was a lot of funny stuff being said by him, and her big dreams never working out would be sad if she weren't such a vain and exploitative person...
