Aamir Khan atleast deserves an Oscar nomination for TZP.

Come on, of all the Best Foreign Language Film nominees at this year's oscars, TZP has the one of the highest IMDb ratings of 8.0
Also, the film is great and undoubtedly, the best from India in recent times.

Also just because Aamir Khan as a producer could not market his film as well as the producers of Slumdog (Fox Searchlight) or the producers of other best foreign language films could, he should not be denied of the award or the nomination.
(I know Slumdog is in the main categories and TZP would have been in foreign language category.)

At the end, it's not just about the merits but also how much money you spend in keeping the members of the academy happy.

But just because somebody can't promote or market or lobby his film well at the Oscars, he shouldn't be denied the award or atleast a nomination.

In my earnest opinion, he atleast deserves a nomination at this year's oscars in the Best Foreign Language Category.

Also, personally, I want Aamir Khan to win for India, it's first Oscar in this category.

Apart from being my personal opinion, it is also the general opinion of the public in india as everybody in India liked TZP more than Slumdog Millionaire.

And everybody in India always wanted TZP to win the oscar in foreign language category more than they wanted Slumdog to win.

Generally speaking, Slumdog is film about India and not certainly an indian film.

I strongly feel that if Slumdog was made by an Indian director and produced by an Indian producer most of whom does not have the international clout that foreign production houses and international studios have, then it wouldn't have gotten the kind of global appreciation that it is getting now.

On the other hand, if TZP was made by an foreign director and backed by a foreign production house or an international studio like Fox Searchlight, then it would have gotten a very serious shot at the oscars.

The opinions expressed are personal and anybody and everybody can agree or disagree with them.

"Slumdog Millionaire" was about India but as you say it was not an Indian film.

I agree that Aamir Khan should have been nominated for an Oscar with "Taare Zameen Par", some peoples on this board have said that the film was not good enough for Oscar nomination, but I disagree, I think it is simply becuase it did not have Hollywood support in any shape or form.

I personally liked this film far more than "Slumdog". I actually watched "Slumdog" first on recommendation from my landlady not too long ago. I thought it was fine but I didn't think too much of it. Maybe I've heard too many good things about "Slumdog" to the point I might have expected too much. Coincidentally the next day I watched "TZP" and thought much more highly of that film (mind you I had the DVD for a little while not really expecting too much from it). My first viewing was late in the afternoon, watching it with a teacher friend (who is now a Aamir-convert because of this). Straight after I took it to show my landlady (which then makes it two viewings in one evening). She was so reluctant to watch this cause she didn't want to sit 3 hours watching something with subtitles but I think she just watched it to be polite since I watched her "Slumdog" the night before. At the end (and many parts) she was crying so much. She demanded she get a copy of this for Christmas.

I have heard that "TZP" was too long and musical to be considered for Foreign Oscar nomination, but I don't think they were factors (if that was the case, "Lagaan" would have been definitely out of contention).

It is a shame that it may have been overshadowed by "Slumdog" but in my personal heart of hearts "TZP" has struck a chord with me more than "Slumdog". Though I believe it would have been so worthy of it, "TZP" in the end doesn't need an Oscar to say it's wonderful. There have been many notable films that have been 'robbed' of nominations ("Singin' in the Rain" was SO robbed!). "TZP"'s low keyed yet acclaimed reception all over the world shows the quality and content is speaking for itself. I'm looking forward to introducing this to so many people!

I feel that this film is far better than most films that win the Best Picture Oscar. It is brilliantly made and Aamir Khan above all deserves an Oscar for it. Darsheel also shines here and I think for someone his age, his performance is amazing. I can not imagine anyone doing a better job.

But above all, the message of valuing each child for his individual talents is an important message for the world today. A VERY important message.

This film is an exquisite work of art.
