Look, if you think this movie is perfection, I'm not going to say you're wrong, but I would highly suggest watching several top quality American/European dramas and carefully comparing and critiquing them. Over time, you should be able to differentiate between solid drama and melodrama, and you'll look back and say to yourself, "What was I thinking?"
so *beep* true! an 8.4 for this?... at 1/3 of imdb's top 250 list films are overated, especially after they changed the minimum vote to 25000. That basically just kill off the chances of many of the truly deserving films to ever appear on the list. Sunrise, high and low, and le samourai, just to name a few. these films used to be on the list, giving it much more credibility, now they would have to at least wait for a few years before they qualify. and taking their places are films like these...sigh.......
this is a 10 along with American - Magnolia, 2001, Sweet Smell of Success, Trust European- Seventh Seal, Cries and Whispers, 8 1/2, La Dolce Vita, Solaris, Stalker just to name a few off top of head...there are many different types of movies, you don't like one of the greats? thats fine, plenty more to choose from, doesn't mean someone else is wrong for not liking what you like
Okay, I changed my mind. I AM going to say you're wrong. When the boy runs at the teacher and he lifts him up into the air at the very end? That's incredibly sappy! That's very, VERY sappy. How can you not see that? Especially when the boy ALREADY hugged him a few scenes earlier.
agreed, that was excessive, it really ended after the boy hugged him and got in the car to leave with his family, but i'm not going to harp too hard on a gratuitous 5 seconds...as far as i'm concerned they deserved at least that silly shot, you're right it wasn't needed but, we get it, ya know
